THE HILL: Democrats dive into GOP districts, accusing Republicans of avoiding constituents

House Democrats are diving back into GOP districts to conduct town halls during the long spring recess, escalating an unusual tactic they’re hoping will help them win over battleground voters.

The gambit — aimed at districts held by Republicans facing tough reelection contests — was initiated after House GOP leaders advised Republican lawmakers not to meet face-to-face with voters in large, public forums amid the outcry over President Trump’s efforts to remake Washington.

In March, a handful of Democrats ventured into GOP districts to stage town halls put on by grassroots activists and local party affiliates. They’ve expanded the effort this month, using the two-week holiday break to visit Republican-held districts in states spanning from coast to coast.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) have gained the most attention as they traverse the country on the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, which launched in March. In recent days the pair has barnstormed through Republican strongholds in the West, including stops in Montana, Utah and Idaho, attracting large crowds in the process.

But they’re hardly alone. On a smaller scale, individual House Democrats — some coordinating with the Democrats’ national campaign arms, others not — are also hopping into Republican territory to take their anti-Trump arguments directly to voters. A large part of the message is calling out GOP lawmakers for declining to conduct similar public events.

“Republicans shouldn’t be hiding from their constituents,” Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) said Friday in an email.

The left loves to blame the victim.

They send armies of leftist crazies into Republican town halls and then blame the Republicans for not wanting to hold more of them.

Real Americans will pay no attention to the pukes. Real Americans know communists and Marxists when they see them.

The Town Hall format works when you have honest, respectful people attending them. The Democrats have shown they are using such Town Hall forums as platforms to try to disrupt the very debate they are now saying should take place. In other words, saying what they want without having to pay for the rental of the venue.

I wonder how much the Democrats pay their protesters at such events?

Congress is making no effort to give Trump the tools he needs to do a top-notch job.

The failure of Republicans to help trouble is causing Trump to use the limited tools beyond what some people consider proper.

Congress needs to help Trump run things smoothly. Foreign-born judges should not handle removal cases.

Trump needs the summary power to remove 100,000 Civil Service employees in 2025 and 50,000 in each year thereafter. Pack up! The door is that away! Bye! And good riddance!

I can understand that. To many Americans, liberty and freedom are just talk as long as their government supports them with free stuff. Many Americans no longer find it useful to work when they’ve got a government who will have others work for them.

Democrats accuse Republicans of every bad dangerous thing they do it’s been their M.O. from day one.

To trust one is like sleeping with cobras.

It is not a reasonable tactic.

The election exits indicated a failure to turn out democrat voters. Now, the measure of those might derive from the illegal 2020 numbers, but without question places like Dane County and Milwaukee and Philly . . . DID NOT TURN OUT.

The answer to this cannot be to try to persuade already decided GOP voters. The answer should be in Dem portions of swing districts. They have to drive their own turnout, not try to flip those already committed.

OTOH, there is an aspect of desperation in all this. They could not have a more friendly media and the numbers still proved to be what they were.

That’s probably a good observation.

Now, did they justify the need for it, or allow it to seem
as if reasoned?

I admit to not reading the whole thing. After a while it
feels like rubbing your eyeballs on a Leprosy sore.

"but without question places like Dane County and Milwaukee and Philly . . . DID NOT TURN OUT."

Nobody doubts that turnout is important but there is considerable "question" about these examples.

Of the 3 counties you mention, only one (Philly) had less turnout in 2024 than in 2020.

Milwaukee was UP, Dane was WAY UP as compared to even the allegedly inflated 2020 figures.

Dane County election results

Milwaukee County election results

Sounds like a great strategy. Until you stop and think about their world view, their message and their end goal of smoking rubble.

And they do not even consider the possibility that what may arise from the smoking rubble may not be to their liking.

The administration has already gotten rid of 160K federal civilian employees.

Ref: https://layoffs.fyi/

We could be looking at over 300K gone by the end of 2025.
