Dubai -- US airstrikes targeting an oil port held by Yemen’s Houthi rebels killed 74 people and wounded 171 others, the group said Friday, marking the single-deadliest known attack under President Donald Trump’s new campaign targeting the rebels.
Assessing the toll of Trump’s campaign, which began March 15, has been incredibly difficult as the US military’s Central Command so far has not released any information on the campaign, its specific targets and how many people have been killed.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthi rebels strictly control access to areas attacked and don’t publish information on the strikes, many of which likely have targeted military and security sites.
But the strike on the Ras Isa oil port, which sent massive fireballs shooting into the night sky, represented a major escalation for the American campaign. The Houthis also immediately released graphic footage of those killed in the attack.
In a statement, Central Command said that “US forces took action to eliminate this source of fuel for the Iran-backed Houthi terrorists and deprive them of illegal revenue that has funded Houthi efforts to terrorise the entire region for over 10 years.”
“This strike was not intended to harm the people of Yemen, who rightly want to throw off the yoke of Houthi subjugation and live peacefully,” it added. It did not acknowledge any casualties and declined to comment when asked by The Associated Press regarding civilians reportedly being killed.
The Iranian-backed Houthis later Friday launched a missile toward Israel that was intercepted, the Israeli military said. Sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and other areas. The war in Yemen, meanwhile, further internationalised as the US alleged a Chinese satellite company was “directly supporting” Houthi attacks, something Beijing did not immediately acknowledge.

Yemen’s Houthis,
they were rebels
in the town of old Dubai.
Taunted US and its allies
‘til it was time for them to die.
FAFO, Really don’t care if a few non combatants get killed. Sleep with dogs.....
Agree. Settle it.
When ancient Hebrews were ordered by God to utterly destroy some enemies they decided on their own to disobey God and to spare some children. One grew up and had a child who grew up to be Haman who was anti-Jewish and set out to annihilate them.
In the Book of Esther she killed Haman, saving the other Jews of the era. The hamantaschen pastry (with poppy seeds or cherry or apricots) is part of the annual festival of Purim. Incorrectly said to be for Haman’s three cornered hats but actually was a tradition for people to cut off the ears of enemies as souvenirs to save after killing them. So Haman’s Ears are the real pastry source.
Houthis, and their sympathizers, FAFO. Good
To most of us, this sounds like a very good start.
I heard on news radio the other day that our armed forces are ‘softening’ up the Houthi terrorists before the US aids the legit Yemeni government in exile, 50k or 60k. The Houthi terrorists ousted them, or if you will Iran...
During Desert Storm, 3000 sorties were flown daily, for a month. That was with a fighter and bomber fleet between 50% to 100% larger than today’s inventory, thanks to 5% defense budget, and vast Cold War parts and munitions stores. Aircraft aren’t stacked up in Saudi today as they were in 1991. Odds are whatever they’re doing to the Houthis, a month is the minimum length of time for air operations, since they are hitting populated areas and not armies clearly visible in the desert sands. And if Iran’s turn comes, expect months of air raids, as Iran’s air defenses are peeled back like an onion.
The ACLU and a federal judge will show up in..... 3.2.1...bingo!!! /s
Looks like a battle rhythm of a few dozens strikes per day.
Did Congress declare war on Yemen? Did I miss that? Asking for a weird friend.
The constitution is irrelevant in the modern world. /s

...Experts believe that a military offensive by Yemen’s internationally recognized government to retake control of a major port from the Houthi rebels could begin soon.
However, there has been little confirmation that the operation will receive the necessary U.S. backing to succeed, according to a report by an Emirati English-language newspaper on Friday.
