LNC Chair Calls Out Colorado Libertarian Chair for Offensive Social Media Conduct

Libertarian National Committee Chair Steven Nekhaila has issued a public statement criticizing the behavior of Colorado Chair Hannah Goodman after she sent derogatory messages to another user from one of the state party’s official social media accounts.

On Tuesday, The Denver Post reported that Goodman had privately sent disparaging comments to an individual while using the Libertarian Party of Colorado’s official X account. According to the report, Goodman used anti-gay slurs and made remarks disparaging individuals with disabilities during an exchange with a critic of the party’s social media presence. The conversation eventually escalated to the point where the individual stated they planned to notify the local press.

The Libertarian Party of Colorado confirmed over the weekend that Goodman had sent the messages. According to The Denver Post, Executive Director James Wiley provided the publication with a seven-page statement on Saturday defending the party’s social media presence and its success. The report also states that Wiley used another slur in reference to the individual involved in the exchange.

In a statement released this Thursday on X, Libertarian National Committee Chair Steven Nekhaila called Goodman’s conduct “homophobic and dehumanizing,” describing it as “vile, unprofessional, and fundamentally incompatible” with Libertarian Party principles.

“This wasn’t a lapse in judgment,” Nekhaila said. “It was a full-blown meltdown on an official Party account fueled by arrogance and a total lack of respect for the people we’re supposed to represent. And this is someone who once ran for LNC Vice Chair?”

Nekhaila further asserted that no serious political organization would tolerate such behavior from its leadership and urged Goodman to resign if she could not engage without resorting to “slurs, tantrums, and disgrace.” He stressed the importance of maintaining standards, saying the party was building a “movement that defends liberty,” and warned that he would not allow its mission to be “hijacked by those more interested in attention than principle.”

In response, the Libertarian Party of Colorado issued its own statement on social media parodying Nekhaila’s comments, replacing Goodman’s name with his and referencing similar remarks he made about the current chair of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire. It also posted a separate comment suggesting that Nekhaila would make a better chair of the Democratic Socialists of America.

As Chair of the Libertarian National Committee, let me be unequivocal:

The homophobic and dehumanizing language used by Colorado LP Chair Hannah Goodman is vile, unprofessional, and fundamentally incompatible with the principles of this Party.

This wasn’t a lapse in judgment. It was a full-blown meltdown on an official Party account fueled by arrogance and a total lack of respect for the people we’re supposed to represent. And this is someone who once ran for LNC Vice Chair?

No serious political party would tolerate this kind of behavior from a leader. And neither will we.

If you can’t represent the Party without slurs, tantrums, and disgrace, then step aside. We are building a movement that defends liberty and human dignity not a clubhouse for bullies who want to cosplay as revolutionaries.

I will not look the other way. I will not stay quiet. And I will not allow our mission to be hijacked by those more interested in attention than principle.

This party will have standards. Period.
