On Wednesday’s “Alex Marlow Show,” Breitbart News economics editor John Carney discussed the policy legacy of Pat Buchanan.
Carney said, “Pat Buchanan, really, was pretty formative for me. He, correctly, convinced me that America’s post-Cold War interventionism was crazy. So, I opposed — I was a kid at the time — but I opposed our toppling of the government of Panama, I opposed the incursion that we did in Somalia — I still can’t get anybody to explain what the heck we were doing during the ‘Black Hawk Down’ days in Somalia why were we there. I opposed the bombing of Serbia. I opposed the overthrow of the government of Haiti. We had become crazily interventionist…and I opposed the first Gulf War…and this was all Pat Buchanan’s influence, he was out there saying, we should be looking out for America first. We shouldn’t become the policeman of the world, and he had the same philosophy on trade, that we needed a trade policy that worked for America, just like we needed a national security policy that worked for America.”

No Ross Perot?
Another good man, slandered by the left, and abandoned by Republicans, is vindicated.
And his warnings about forever war.
A prophet in his own time.
He was so slandered by the deep state before most of us even knew there was a deep state.
He sure was!
From Pat Buchanan:
Is he right?
[First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.
Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ’60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.
Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks — with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas — to advance black applicants over white applicants.
Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.
We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude?]
I still remember him on that PBS round table show “The MacLaughlin Group.” Eleanor Clift, blaaa. The SNL parody was funny. Back when they were funny.
America would be a lot better off today if Pat was elected back in the 90s.
There was a big crew of Bush Republicans at FR who loved calling Buchanan conservatives “racist xenophobic nativists” for having the audacity to oppose Dubya the Dumb’s No Borders policy. Funny how that has worked out.
Pat should get a medal just for being on the ballot in FLA in 2000. He may have saved the nation from 4 years of Algore.
True!
B.S.
Pat never had a chance at winning the White House.
Therefore his “ideas” never stood a chance.
He would have fit in well at FOX.
Trump was speaking of what he is implementing now for decades.
Trump earned and don’t OWE anyone anything.
Proud Buchanan voter in the ‘92 and ‘96 GOP primaries.
Honestly, there’s little daylight between Trump ‘24 and Buchanan ‘92. Where DJT is now is where Pat was 33 years ago.
I also voted for Buchanan.
No regrets.
Buchanan was “Right From The Beginning” on so many things. I used to watch him on Crossfire as a kid in the 80s and agreed with him on nearly everything. If we had listened to him 35 years ago saying we needed a moratorium on immigration until those here had a chance to assimilate we’d be much further ahead as a nation today.
(I used to watch him on Crossfire as a kid in the 80s)
I remember Pat on Crossfire. Who was that snotty skinny guy with the glasses he’d face off with sitting across from him? I couldn’t stand that guy.
Pat’s gotta be pushing 90. Haven’t seen him on the tube. Probably too frail.
Mike Kinsley I think.
