The House voted in favor of the SAVE Act, requiring proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, in a 220-208 vote. All Republican present voted in support of the SAVE Act, but it was largely passed on partisan lines, as just four Democrats voted in favor alongside them.
The SAVE Act effectively amends the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.
The measure itself lists several forms of valid identification to prove citizenship: “a form of identification issued consistent with the requirements of the REAL ID Act of 2005 that indicates the applicant is a citizen of the United States,” namely a valid U.S. passport, a U.S. military ID card alongside a military record of service “showing that the applicant’s place of birth was in the United States,” a valid government-issued photo ID showcasing that the individual was born in the U.S., and a birth certificate issued by a state.
“Despite the ridiculous attacks and purposeful misinformation spread about the bill, I am pleased to see that the House of Representatives once again passed the SAVE Act on a bipartisan basis to ensure only U.S. citizens vote in federal elections,” Roy said of the measure passing through the House.
“I would like to thank Speaker Johnson, Chairman Steil, and Senator Mike Lee for partnering with me on this effort.
In order to preserve this republic, we must uphold what it means to be able to vote in a U.S. election,” the congressman emphasized.

“I am grateful that my colleagues answered the call and passed the SAVE Act,” he continued, describing this as the “critical first step to ensure that we maintain election integrity throughout our country.”
“It is now up to the Senate to take up, pass, and send this important bill to President Trump’s desk,” he added.
Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) also celebrated the bill’s passage in the House on social media.
“Thrilled that the House just passed the SAVE Act, which I introduced in the Senate, alongside @chiproytx in the House,” Lee said.
“We must make it easy to vote and hard to cheat,” he added. “That’s what the SAVE Act would do.”
If it needs 60 Senate votes it’s dead
This should be a no brainer. The fact that it isn’t reflects on how bad the Democrats are.
Well, that photo is actually the House...
Yes but it makes the point
The point is to use this as a campaign weapon against the obstructionist RATS in 2026, so we can get closer to the eventual goal of 60+.
What could conceivably be a reason to oppose such a law?!
I don’t get it.
If it were to pass into law, be sure the Democrats have their judge-shopped courts standing at the ready to strike it down as “unconstitutional.”
It gives Republicans another “round in the chamber” to use against Dems in the 2026 elections.
“Who wants fair elections and who does not!”
The truth is that the dems have been working for years/decades to change the demographics of the USA to ensure liberals win elections.
That's the truth, although no dems will actually admit that.
Also, dems are knee-jerk opposed to ANYONE, for ANY REASON. having to present valid ID at the polls. It makes it harder to manufacture votes.
The only use for this bill is to target marginal Dems in House and Senate.
In Senate watch Peters MI, Rosen NV, Casey PA who are up in 26.
Vulnerable House Dems. Val Hoyle (OR-04), Josh Riley (NY-19), Derek Tran (CA-45), Mary Peltola (AK-AL)
This is what politicians spend most of their time doing. Jockeying for their position and influence.
Nuke the filibuster.
Pass this and the Judicial Branch reform and extend the Trump tax cuts, etc.
Then, put it back on the last day possible.
And where kickbacks are born.
“... to manufacture votes.”
If mandatory in-person voting and severe restrictions on mail-in balloting were in place, the ‘manufactured vote’ would all but disappear.
Texas is one of the states that require a legal birth certificate to get a drivers license (original or renewal) or several other state provided documents that can be used at the polls. If you cannot prove you were born in the USA or are a naturalized citizen, no document is issued. This should be the minimum for all states.
If it needs 51 Senate votes then it is probably dead. About 50% of Senate republicans are Rino’s.
Nothing ‘needs’ 60 votes unless someone filibusters a bill. It’s just the cloture vote to force an end to the debate.
Of course that is what I meant. If it subject to filibuster the bill is dead. The GOPe will NEVER get rid of it. If the rats get a Majority and the President they will next time. There will not be a Manchin to stop it. They will add 9 rat SC Judges and 2 rat states for openers.
