President Donald Trump: 90-Day Pause for Countries Not Retaliating to Tariffs, China Increases to 125%

President Donald Trump on Wednesday is rallying the world against China, hitting the adversary with increased tariffs effective immediately while instituting a 90-day pause and “substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period” for other countries that have reached out to negotiate rather than retaliate.

“Based on the lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets, I am hereby raising the Tariff charged to China by the United States of America to 125%, effective immediately,” Trump announced Wednesday on Truth Social.

Trump said he hopes at some point China will realize its days of ripping off the United States of America, as well as other countries, are over.

“At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable,” he continued.

The announcement did not end there, as Trump is rewarding the countries that have not retaliated against the U.S., and are instead begging to negotiate, by instituting a 90-day pause with a “substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period,” effective “immediately.”

Trump wrote:

Conversely, and based on the fact that more than 75 Countries have called Representatives of the United States, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the USTR, to negotiate a solution to the subjects being discussed relative to Trade, Trade Barriers, Tariffs, Currency Manipulation, and Non Monetary Tariffs, and that these Countries have not, at my strong suggestion, retaliated in any way, shape, or form against the United States, I have authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Trump’s announcement comes as China vowed to “fight to the end,” announcing it would raise retaliatory tariffs on American goods

The Chinese lie, cheat, steal and spy. They cannot be trusted. Not only for the US but for other nations.
It’s a bold move and needs to be done.
China is very vulnerable in terms of energy. About 93% of their oil imports are by sea. Ultimately China cannot defend their sea oil trade routes if push comes to shove.

One of the most important weeks in American history ended today.

American globalism permeated the whole of world trade

Free trade or expensive trade....... that is the question our president put to each and every separate nation in the world.

Dumb - driven by Chinese nationalism more than any economic consideration. If India is smart, they will gobble up a lot of Chinese manufacturing as industries flee China.

China is broke.

President Trump knows it. He is applying a squeeze to force the results he wants.

Yup. I knew it. Trump came in with shock and awe and subsequently softened his position to reward good behavior.

Trump did not back down. He realizes it takes more than 10 minutes for (the compliant) countries to reposition their manufacturing, supply chain, and trade practices. This is more complicated than ordering a pizza. He will be looking at commitments and subsequently adjust tariffs.

Adam Schifty Schiff now says he wants Trump investigated for “insider trading” because Trump posted earlier today that investors should be confident and buy into the market.

I don’t think Schiff knows the definition of insider trading. He does it, of course, but Trump telling the people to have confidence in his plan IS NOT insider trading.

Is a country that big ever broke? They will print more money. We do the same. Eventually, the piper will have to be paid. Eventually.

The Panicans and Globalists have prevailed. Trump was the only one fighting for US. Takes GUTS to do what he was trying to do. No other president in the past or future had/will have the guts.

We have to stop funding China’s military build up. It’s long past time to untangle America from China and ween ourselves off of their cheap crap and weed out their influence in our government. They can’t bully America either.
