European Union talks tough game on tariffs but introduced its own at a lesser rate than the United States, while saying it was hoping to strike a deal.

The European Commission called tariffs “unjustified and damaging” while introducing its own on American goods on Wednesday, the members of the European Union agreeing on a package of “retaliatory duties”. Only strong Trump ally Hungary, led by Viktor Orban, voted against the measure.

While the announcement of tariffs worth €22 billion come amid swirling headlines of a trade war with China, Europe’s move appears to be anything but, with new tariffs billions less than those imposed by the United States and some headline items cancelled altogether.

Ask the EU to explain how their tariffs on our cars at 12.5% are fair but the 2.5% we changed on their cars wasn’t. Now that the new tariffs make ours equal to theirs, all of a sudden they scream “Foul!”. Okay, to make it fair, let’s both reduce our tariffs on cars to zero and be done with it. Methinks the EU has a “Cake-and-eat-it-too” problem.

Oh please. They aren’t introducing anything. They already engage in protectionism with large tariffs on American goods.

With Europe the tariffs aren’t the biggest part. The biggest barrier is all of their endless regulation. Are they willing to SLASH regulations? If so, then it would make a lot of sense to make an agreement with the EU.
