Obama Judge Orders FEMA to Disburse Millions of Dollars in Grants to Blue States, Says Trump in Violation of Court Order

US District Judge of the District Court for the District of Rhode Island, John McConnell, an Obama appointee, accused President Trump of violating his court order blocking his federal funding freeze.

In January Judge McConnell temporarily blocked Trump’s freeze on federal funding in response to a request from 22 Democrat state attorneys general and DC.

Trump’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) previously put a temporary pause of agency grant, loan and other financial assistance programs.

“The American people elected Donald J. Trump to be President of the United States and gave him a mandate to increase the impact of every federal taxpayer dollar. In Fiscal Year 2024,of the nearly $10 trillion that the Federal Government spent, more than $3 trillion was Federal financial assistance, such as grants and loans,” the OMB said.

“This memorandum requires Federal agencies to identify and review all Federal financial assistance programs and supporting activities consistent with the President’s policies and requirements,” the OMB memo said.

Trump's FEMA should just say "We're broke and have no money" just like they told WNC residents after Helene.

Does anybody know how much longer it will take for SCOTUS to start limiting these District Judges?

These judges interfering in the executive branch should be SWAT raided for sedition. A few rounds of this will fix the problem.

We may be approaching the day when Trump asks, “How many divisions does the judge have?” Hopefully SCOTUS will step in before then and do the right thing, but I’m not optimistic about that.

District judges can only control people in their own court/district period. They have no jurisdiction anywhere else hence the “district” judge.

I’d tell the judge to go F’ himself and then sue them for not following the law but then again I tell liberal idiots to go F’ themselves on a regular basis.

Well, I just checked the Sup Crt website and here is a new order just filed this afternoon.

A 5-4 Supreme Court *grants* the Trump administration’s emergency request to stay a Massachusetts court order requiring it to reinstate $250 million in Department of Education teacher training grants to eight states.

Roberts joined the liberals in dissent.

We obviously can’t count on the Chief Justice, but maybe Barrett will continue to see the overreach of these district judges and vote with the more conservative justices.

When is this administration going to start some serious PUSHBACK against these rogue judges? Or, will they ever?
I’m still wishin’ and hopin’ they do!
Trump cannot do all this alone.

Based on the case and SCOTUS order I linked to in my post just above, SCOTUS should put a kabash on all of these orders to disburse funds.

Should, but won't. They are being blackmailed hard!

I'd do the same. Ignore the order as unconstitutional. It is amazing that suddenly Judges can constantly order the equivalent of a nationwide preliminary injunction against the Executive branch and everyone treats it as business as usual. It's not.

Unless SCOTUS wants non-stop appeals from Trump et al arriving on their desk, they need to put a stop to it now with one all-encompassing order.

Maybe they think they are sending that message with the Order from today:

From the Opinion:

Although the Courts of Appeals generally lack appellate jurisdiction over appeals from TROs, several factors counsel in favor of construing the District Court’s order as an appealable preliminary injunction. Among other considerations, the District Court’s order carries many of the hallmarks of a preliminary injunction. See Sampson v. Murray,415 U. S. 61, 87 (1974); Abbott v. Perez, 585 U. S. 579, 594(2018).

Moreover, the District Court’s “basis for issuing the order [is] strongly challenged,” as the Government is likely to succeed in showing the District Court lacked jurisdiction to order the payment of money under the APA. Sampson, 415 U. S., at 87.
