AFGE will challenge the Trump administration for illegally attempting to strip over one million federal workers of collective bargaining rights and rip up union contracts.
In the biggest attack on the labor movement in history, President Trump on March 27 issued an executive order illegally stripping collective bargaining rights from federal workers under the guise of “national security.” The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) also issued guidance telling agencies to end union rights and union contracts and shut down grievance procedures. It also told agencies to continue Trump’s Reduction in Force (RIF) order but ignore RIF requirements in the union contracts that have been cancelled.
“President Trump's latest executive order is a disgraceful and retaliatory attack on the rights of hundreds of thousands of patriotic American civil servants – nearly one-third of whom are veterans – simply because they are members of a union that stands up to his harmful policies,” said AFGE President Everett Kelley. “This administration’s bullying tactics represent a clear threat not just to federal employees and their unions, but to every American who values democracy and the freedoms of speech and association. Trump’s threat to unions and working people across America is clear: fall in line or else.”

Incidentally, membership is not optional for the federal employees they "represent".
OK one can opt out of "membership" in theory, but one still has to pay dues.
I expected this. I am positive Trump did too.
Friggin’ thieving unions stealing from the U.S. taxpayers. Federal unions are illegal. Not President Trump’s directive.
another rat trough deliberately put in place

Created by executive order, extended with act.
Therefore, Can be altered by executive order, or changed within laws of the act.
Why does the article act like following the law is illegal? Trump is following the law.
I don’t believe all federal workers pay dues. Know several and the said a few years ago that they don’t and do not interact with the union. They are engineers so idk if that makes a difference. One was a supervisor and they said they are not covered by the union.
“Why does the article act like following the law is illegal?”
It’s just legal sabre rattling. That union is fighting for its life, they will say anything to garner support whether it’s true or false.
How it actually plays out in court, if it goes there, will likely be different.
> one can opt out of “membership” in theory, but one still has to pay dues <
That was true at one time. But in 2018 the Supreme Court said that paying any dues or other money to unions by public sector employees was optional.

Side point: Unions are corrupt. No doubt about that. But quitting the union is not always the easiest of decisions to make. I’m aware of instances where someone quits the union, then gets unfairly targeted by vindictive supervisors.
No union = less protection
Just like Mob protection in a local community and just like the Mob unions are also evil.
Lemme guess
This will “randomly “ end up in Boasbergs lap
Even FDR said public unions were a bad idea
I don’t think I was clear enough in my post #8. I wasn’t saying that supervisors were working with the union to “punish” anyone who left the union.
It’s that some supervisors are nasty. They feel it’s their right and their duty to fire someone now and again. Doesn’t matter if the person deserves it. And a worker who left the union is an easy target.
I saw that happen to a friend of mine. She was an excellent public school teacher (not exaggerating). She left the union after that Supreme Court ruling. Her principal was a hateful piece of work. She targeted my friend, and eventually got her fired.
Please see my post #13.
I guess, today, I wouldn’t be allowed to fire the two I managed to get rid of about 12 hears ago.
👍🙂
And
OPM = Other People’s Money
Best way to get rid of them is to stop payroll deductions for unions. Make everyone write a check each month.
