HHS starts layoffs of thousands of workers across its agencies

Layoff notices began arriving early Tuesday for thousands of employees of the sprawling Department of Health and Human Services and its subsidiary agencies, with as many 10,000 workers potentially expected to be hit by the cuts, including some of the country’s top health officials...

Emails went out to affected employees around 5 a.m., but some who hadn’t seen the messages showed up to work only to be turned away, realizing they had lost their jobs because their badges weren’t working, multiple sources told STAT.

Well, they did have the chance to take the deferred resignation deal in February. FAFO.

45 years in the aviation industry I've been through at least 15 lay-offs. Four times I was hit and missed the other 11 or so times.

That's the nature of work in the private sector. These Gubmint employees have NO idea what real life is like.

This one is very sweet.

These “experts” are about to face the cold hard world of the private sector who will look at their resumes and laugh.

Most of the NGOs and universities that could have saved them are now under siege as well.

We are attacking the left on all fronts—classic Sun Tzu tactics.

Been “Transitioned”, “Right-Sized”, “RIF’d(Reduction In Force)”, “Laid off”, several times in 40 years.

Government workers shouldn’t be immune from it.

The 800 pound gorilla in the room is named HUD.
A fair percentage of the black middle class is employed there.

The article are starting to come out now—here is another one:

https://federalnewsnetwork.com/workforce/2025/04/layoffs-begin-at-the-nations-health-agencies/

Key quotes:

“Two lines with hundreds of employees wrapped around the HHS headquarters building Tuesday morning. Workers waited in the chilly spring weather to be individually scanned in for access to the building. Some said they were waiting to find out if they still had jobs. Others gathered at local coffee shops and lunch spots after being turned away, finding out they had been eliminated after decades of service.”

HUD is offering early retirements and other “carrots” first.

Then the big cuts will come for those who remain.

Expect to see more articles on HUD in a couple of months.

I noticed that HUD was conspicuously absent from the list of agencies selected for resizing.

“”some who hadn’t seen the messages””

Probably a good indication of how they handled their work also - not paying attention!!!

HUD is under the gun.

Here are some articles:

https://www.archpaper.com/2025/02/hud-layoffs-housing-disaster-relief/

https://nationalmortgageprofessional.com/news/hud-reportedly-considering-office-closures-across-multiple-states

https://www.npr.org/2025/02/14/g-s1-49177/hud-employees-are-bracing-for-what-they-hear-will-be-drastic-staff-cuts

As I posted upthread they are offering the carrots first.

The sticks are due in May.

The gravy train with biscuit wheels ran off the tracks or has been sent to sit at the train yard for scrapping. If they were offered whatever severance, early retirement whatever, should’ve taken it.

If they were duped by the unions that it was an oh heck no scenario we’ll organize a protest or whatever, and sat on their hands or collective backsides, ok, well, it’s high time they start looking for work.
