Former Planned Parenthood Director Confirms It Engages in Medicaid Fraud

A former director of Planned Parenthood confirms that the abortion business routinely engages in Medicaid fraud.

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments on Wednesday in the case of Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, which deals with a huge part of Planned Parenthood’s funding stream: Medicaid reimbursements.

Abby Johnson, who ran a Planned Parenthood facility before she became pro-life, describes how the abortion company regularly engages in Medicaid fraud – and she says that’s a great reason to defund Planned Parenthood.

“We rarely saw women at the Planned Parenthood I worked at in Texas for anything other than abortion, and if we did, like many other Planned Parenthood facilities, we overbilled Medicaid,” she explains in a new column at The Federalist. “For example, if a package of birth control pills only cost us $3, we would bill Medicaid upwards of $30 and pocket the difference.”

Johnson’ abortion facility was not the only Planned Parenthood to engage in Medicaid fraud, she explains.

“That’s what Planned Parenthood in Iowa did for many years,” she adds. “They were able to make nearly $30 million and eventually were sued by my friend, Sue Thayer, who worked there for almost 20 years. Planned Parenthood was also sued in Texas for Medicaid fraud, where they lost and had to pay back $4.3 million.”

Not only does the practice result in taxpayers being forced to fund the abortion business, it hurts patients looking for legitimate health care.

“”The thing is, with Medicaid, that money needs to go to low-income families for health care. Because Planned Parenthood does not care about women or their families, they are willing to not only defraud the system for money but also purposely take away federal funds from families in desperate need,” Johnson explains.

They stole 4.3 million and did not go to jail. If I hold up a convenience store and walk off with a few hundred dollars I will justly go to jail for several years here in Texas.
