Hegseth Orders Civilian Workforce Realignment in DOD, Reopens DRP
U.S. Department of Defense News ^ | March 29,2025 | Matthew Olay

Posted on 03/30/2025 8:34:33 AM PDT by cgbg

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth signed a memorandum yesterday directing the realignment of the Defense Department's civilian workforce...

"The net effect will be a reduction in the number of civilian full-time equivalent positions and increased resources in the areas where we need them most," the memo reads.

It then lists two courses of action to implement Hegseth's intent...

Hegseth calls on the undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness to immediately implement DOD's Deferred Resignation Program and to also offer voluntary early retirement for all eligible DOD civilian employees...

DRP is Deferred Resignation Program.

The memo is offering the carrot...and then indicating that a stick will be the next step to make major cuts in the 900,000 civilian DOD numbers.

They’ve got to keep working on the 40 percenter Publik Serpents who told their “media” toads they were going to spend their work hours “resisting and obstructing” the Trump presidency. Those sierra oscar bravos have got to go.

A sincere compliment is offered for linking to a real, verifiable source.

That the stated aim is "to reduce duplicative efforts and reject excessive bureaucracy through an honest analysis of the workforce" is simple, practical and obvious. Therefore, it will enrage the Left and their RINO chums.

They need to really re-think their entire approach to weapon system acquisition. If they could remove the Waste, Fraud and Abuse, they would have not much left at all. I did it for 25 years and I encountered very few federal employees who were adding any value at all.

900,000 civilian employees??? What is that, about one employee per soldier?

I feel bad for all those supposed “veterans” out there playing with the Jew Killing far left. Obviously, nobody has told the “veterans” that one of the last things their beloved Joe Pedo did before we threw him out was get rid of veteran’s preference for hiring for U.S. Gubmint jobs. Way to go guys. The joke is on you. Joe Pedo was a big veteran fan because he never was one.

In any large bureaucratic organization allowed to sprawl for decades—private or government—it is about 80% waste.

The process to fix it is to cut staff first, then create new procedures, then train the staff on the new procedures and then implement the new procedures.

The private sector is more motivated to do this hard work because if they don’t it will ultimately doom their business.

“900,000 civilian employees??? What is that, about one employee per soldier?”

Does this number include companies like Boeing who hire their own contractors to work on DoD contracts?

I have worked on huge construction projects, involving millions and sometimes billions of dollars, and the theft, from top management on down, is unreal.

I can’t imagine the theft going on with the Federal government. Involves trillions of dollars.

I have a friend who is a civilian engineer for the Navy. I spoke to him about a month go. He says his department is already down 7 engineers as they can’t find anyone to apply fo the last few years.

I think part that problem is the actual hiring process and position requirements. As a professional engineer myself, I finally quit applying after never even getting an interview.

He’s not sure what will happen in his department.

In recent years the DEI requirements in .gov made it almost impossible to hire a person who could do the job effectively.

One of my friends fathers was a union electrician who went around the world doing major construction jobs. He worked on a bunch of projects like sky scrapers and on the construction of the Alaskan pipeline.

He had stories about theft that would make you laugh in awe. the theft was so bad that some guys took stealing as a challenge that they did for fun just to see if they could get away with it.

One was a couple of steel workers who decided to steal an L shaped pry bar just to see if they could. The bar was about 6 feet long and the L section was about 3 ft.

One of the guys was a pretty big guy so they stuffed the bar down inside his pants and shirt so the the L section was covered by his sleeve. Of course this meant that the guy had to keep his arm stretched out at a 90 degree angle which would be a dead giveaway to the inspectors watching at the gate to keep things from being stolen. The L of the bar was also stuck out the cuff of the guys sleeve so they stuffed paper into a work glove and stuffed it on the end of the bar

The one guy with the bar put his 90 degree arm over the shoulder of his friend and walked out the gate looking like the best buddies that they were. They made it.

Oh come on.

You mean that airplanes that are only somewhat available after decades of development, multi-billion dollar aircraft carriers that are late and need many upgrades to work, $12 billion for submarines that can’t be found, LCS that are disasters etc are unacceptable? How about that tanker aircradt that isn’t yet after years or that new trainer for the AF that won’t see activity until after a lot of the people who started the process retire? How about airplanes that can’t get parts because the brass can’t make up their minds about which direction to take?

All sounds pretty normally SNAFU and FUBAR to me.

I was on a project that was a disaster. Behind schedule, over budget, failing to meet technical requirements. The government was “very upset” with the big defense company. The big company said that they needed “more money”. So the government gave them more money (a very sizeable amount). Nothing improved. Six months later, still behind schedule, still not meeting technical requirements, all funds exhausted. The government was “very upset”. The big company said that they needed “more money”. So the government gave them more money (a very sizeable amount — more than the time before). Nothing got better that time either. It’s like a game they play between themselves. Money moves from this pocket to that pocket, everybody stays employed, but nothing gets accomplished. They don’t care.

I just asked Grok, and it says veterans preference still exists. Where are you getting that information?

Biden was sharp as a tack. And there was no inflation. And the border was secure.

Great, so just provide the source where it says ad veterans preference was eliminated

Because everything I’m seeing is the veterans preference act 1944 still in full effect
