Is this the sub money Musk brought up in his interview with Fox News ? If so, this next statement is key.

The Government Accountability Office has also expressed concerns. In June, GAO reported that several key technologies the submarine will rely on aren’t yet mature. For example, a new first-of-its-kind propulsion system designed for the Columbia subs won’t be completely tested and ready until after the first boat is delivered in 2026. GAO warned costs could balloon and the sub’s first planned patrol, in 2031, could be delayed if newly-discovered problems force major redesigns.

Is this another Musk headline without context?

That’s a disheartening statement. The UK version of this next gen boomer is the Dreadnought and they were on the drawing boards at the same time a decade ago. UK began cutting steel in 2016(!) and is laying keel now. The USA hasn’t even begun and still doesn’t have completed designs for critical components? Yikes.

Electric propulsion...the Navy has tested this in the past on a submarine. No steam propulsion and no reduction gears. I don’t know how they have redundancy with only one motor tho...

Senator Susan Collins of Maine talks about how she gave the Navy $12 billion tax dollars for more submarines. “But we got no submarines, and even held a hearing on where the $12 billion went. And they said, we don’t know.”

Maybe someone should check with the General Dynamics
shipyard division, which is in Senator Collins’ district.

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (BIW) is a shipyard in Bath, Maine that designs and builds ships for the U.S. Navy. A subsidiary of General Dynamics, a global defense company, it is located on the Kennebec River in Bath, Maine.

To show the time it takes from award to delivery to when the sub will actually be cleared for active use.

I think the Musk sub fraud/waste headline is a lot of sizzle and once past all that, there’s not much of a story there. His claim/headline is missing a lot of context. Maybe by design?

Well, the $12 billion spent on buying three subs never produced any subs.

Not produced for US Navy, but for the Deep State instead?

Or perhaps SPECTRE?

Hey, a new Bond plot!

There are 3 key points missing. When were the contracts awarded and when were they expected to be delivered? And what were the terms of the contract for payment?

The article is from November 6, 2020. Does anyone on this site actually read and comprehend the article before giving their (drive-by) opinion?

Perhaps reduced size adjacent motors, for contingency.
