Grok reports are between 3 and 7 planes out of the 19 we still have “uncrashed” have been dispatched.

Depends on whether the social media plane nerds counted the same “secret” flight twice or not.

I guess they do not turn off their transponders when they deploy on “secret missions”, and hence they can be “plane spotted” with 1/2 a dozen phone applications.

Of those 19 not parted out or a still smoking hole in the ground, only 9-12 may be ready to deploy at any given time due to crew or maintenance issues.

So basically, 1/2 our effective fleet of our most modern bombers could be on a pile of rock and sand the size of a Walmart parking lot in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

The Yemen side of this series of events is interesting, especially as the media tends to ignore that Yemen itself remains embroiled in its civil war between those Houthis and the Saudi-backed “federal” government, with the “separatists” calling for a south Yemen breakaway state. All this, added to to the “Palestinian” mess — there being no actual Palestinian nation with clearly defined borders others than “no Israel” — so this is another facet of the Shiite-Sunni conflict with a dash of Jew hatred spicing things up. Best I watch the situation, the rhetoric is about Israeli vessels navigating / not navigating the straits. That Saudi naval blockade from 2015 forward and Iranian “response” is just another in the intractable Sunni-Shia divide which probably can never heal. So when I read “Houthi” I read Shia, and when I read the opposing sides, I read Sunni and allies.

At 35% Iran has a decent chance of throwing its weight around. The ultimate goal of the Twelver wackos of Iran is to take Mecca from the Saudis. Iran has been a real threat ever since the take over by Khomeini and his Islamic Revolution.

Hezbolla (Israel conflict) and the Houthis (Yemen) are Iranian proxies.

The problem is that the Ukraine war has caused Russia (out of necessity - Iran backfilled critical weapons and ordinance shortages in the early stages of the war) to back Iran more, and Iran backs Hezbollah and the Houthis.

Worse yet, the probability of a nuclear Iran has skyrocketed.

And all of this was also unnecessary, since Russia while a trade partner and weapons supplier to Iran was never keen on the idea of an Islamic nuclear power in their South. But necessity forges unlikely allies at times.
