Trump is the first person in a long while that understands how our economic powers can be used so that our military powers doesnt need to be used.

The US purchases lots of stuff from Communist China. Maybe Trump should put a 25% tariff on all US made goods since we purchase so much from the evil commies.
To: Magnum44
Never thought of that. To think Jimmy Carter had to kiss ass to get our allies to support his efforts to release the hostages in Iran. Most didn’t care.
Canada at least helped 6 of them escape.

Trump needed to talk with the oil buyers before bringing out the tariff club.

"The tariff will take place on April 2, the president said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social..."
"The president accused Venezuela of sending members of the gang Tren de Aragua to U.S. The Trump administration has designed Tren de Aragua as a foreign terrorist organization..."

I think President Trump will get to China. They will require extreme concentration. At least we are going after their “police stations.”
Venezuela, on the other hand, is in our hemisphere. They are intentionally sending enemy fighters in the form of gangs and cartels to destroy the U S. Maduro has declared war in a matter of speaking. It is a situation that can be dealt with immediately.

CITGO is the Venezuela oil company.
I believe 7-11 gets all their gasoline products from CITGO.

I’m for levelling the playing field with countries we trade with but am uncomfortable with penalizing countries for trading with whoever they want to (outside of wartime). We are supposed to be champions of freedom of choice.
We purchase uranium from Russia and rare earth metals from China after all.

Venezuelan oil is thick, dirty and smells like a fart. We can refine it Texas. In the rest of the world it looks like China and India buy a lot of it.

Sure you can. Tariffs are just a tax. Trump could tariff all US made goods to punish the US for doing business with China, like he is punishing other countries for doing business with Venezuela. The tax would be paid by US citizens purchasing US made goods. That would show us.
To: Kentfromohio
Wrong, by definition a tariff applies to imported goods. Export tariffs are unconstitutional. The Northern states wanted to put an export tariff on cotton in the mid 19th century but that was shot down.

Don’t believe the President can unilaterally declare a tax on goods made in the U.S. That is Congress’s department.
