New York City’s controversial local law that would have allowed some people without U.S. citizenship to vote in city elections was ruled unconstitutional by the state’s highest court in a decision released Thursday.
“Whatever the future may bring, the New York Constitution as it stands today draws a firm line restricting voting to citizens,” Court of Appeals Chief Judge Rowan Wilson wrote in the 6-1 majority opinion issued Thursday. Associate Judge Jenny Rivera was the lone dissenter.
The ruling caps a protracted battle over who is permitted to vote in New York City’s municipal elections and puts an end, for now, to the fight to enfranchise more than 800,000 noncitizens who were legally living, working or going to school in the five boroughs.
The law, which the New York City Council passed in late 2021, would have allowed city residents with certain legal status – including green cards, work authorization and DACA status – to vote in city elections for mayor, comptroller, public advocate, borough president and the Council.

The fact that had to go to court is nuts.
Precisely!
there must have been some exceptionally clear, indisputable and unambiguous language in the NY State Constitution about who can and/or who cannot vote in NY elections since 6 out of 7 Justices could find no way to weasel around said language ...

I thought the New York Supreme Court was the state’s highest court.
Hell does freeze over periodically
In Noo Yawk the titles are reversed.
Thought I had mis-read the title!
Speaking of courts, I saw this from Paul Sperry. Hopefully, he will provide more info later today or tomorrow on issues with Judge Boasberg (as if there wasn’t already enough evidence of his bias).

BREAKING: Sources say Judge Boasberg requested the removal from the Web of a 2024 pro-abortion podcast video of wife Liddy Manson trashing Trump. Boasberg’s wife, an abortion activist, campaigned for Hillary in 2016 and gave her a total of $5,300 over her career, FEC data reveal.
Very.
This will appealed to the Federal courts with the claim that the denial violates the wetbacks’ civil rights.
Any appeal would go to the Supreme Court, never a sure thing
In any case, Deep State isn’t worried.
NYS still uses electronic voting machines and tabulators along with mail in voting.
And NYC has RCV for mayorals.
This court decision was a modified limited hangout.
In NYS DeepState can still steal elections at will.
