The Delta plane that crash-landed and flipped upside-down last month descended too quickly in high winds, and then the landing gear collapsed when it touched down and overturned, investigators revealed Thursday.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada, which is still probing the cause of the Feb. 17 crash that saw 21 people hospitalized, said a safety warning system had gone off in the jet about 2.6 seconds before touchdown, indicating a “high rate of descent.”
At the time, Toronto’s Pearson Airport had been dealing with high winds and frigid temperatures in the wake of a major snowstorm.
“Given the reported wind gusts, the approach was flown at 149 knots,” but the plane’s “sink rate” was too high, according to the initial findings.
The report, which doesn’t provide a final cause for the crash, added that the jet’s right main landing gear collapsed after making contact with the runway.
“At touchdown, the following occurred: the side-stay that is attached to the right [main landing gear] fractured, the landing gear folded into the retracted position, the wing root fractured between the fuselage and the landing gear, and the wing detached from the fuselage, releasing a cloud of jet fuel, which caught fire,” the report stated.
“The exact sequence of these events is still to be determined by further examination of the fracture surfaces.”
Despite dozens of injured passengers, every one of the 80 people on board survived when Delta Flight 4819, which was being operated by the airline’s Endeavor Air subsidiary, landed and flipped belly-up at Canada’s largest airport.

The first officer, who was in her fifth straight day
of flying, was at the controls of the crashed plane.
She had 1,422 hours of flying total.......
below the FAA minimum to be a commercial pilot.
She was able to fly unsuspecting passengers with a “special exception” from
the FAA because she had a specific aviation degree and “received a waiver”...
AVIATION PING!...................
DEI ping.
2.6 seconds before landing a warning goes off. Enough time to react or not?
No, it is not enough time to correct decent angle at this point.
It was a unbelievable miracle everyone didn’t burn alive. It now appears all the passengers were nothing but guinea pigs for their Woke insanity.
What is delta stock doing comparatively I wonder
but...girl power!
That will happen when a wing breaks off. Right over.
That was girl power. It just doesn't work too well.
The pilot, is she ok?
Then it's the pilot's fault. He didn't take charge when he was supposed to.
Yes
Was it the former beauty contest winner at the controls?
“ The Delta plane that crash-landed and flipped upside-down last month descended too quickly in high winds”
Or the pilot couldn’t negotiate the high winds or abort?
I mean around her T 38s and T6 s fly around more than bicycle traffic. More that at the local international airport. If they hit the tarmac and lose a wing they don’t say it was too windy
“”https://www.faa.gov/faq/how-do-i-get-commercial-pilot-license-certificate“”
The FAA doesn’t set minumum requirements for COMMERCIAL CARRIERS. The airlines do that.
A commercial pilot certificate requires 250 hours but that’s not for flying for the airlines..just to get the certificate.
So it’s the landing gear’s fault, not the inexperienced pilot that exceeded flight and landing parameters?
And plenty of these pilots are girls.
“Duh”. It frames pilot error. Plain as the pitot on the pilot’s face.
& re #2:
No surprise here.
But Trump is the one endangering the flying public, ‘they’ say. /s
