An FBI agent who accused the bureau of political bias during President Donald Trump's first administration was arrested Monday in New York on charges related to the alleged unauthorized disclosure of confidential information, according to court documents filed Tuesday.
Johnathan Buma, a 15-year veteran of the bureau, allegedly shared text messages, internal documents and other sensitive information with associates, including as part of a prospective book he began writing about his career as an FBI agent.
Beginning in Oct. 2023, Buma "printed approximately 130 files from the FBI's internal network ... some of which were clearly marked with warnings that made clear that the information was to be protected," according to charging documents.
"Buma also printed nine text-file documents which contained text that had been copied and pasted from reports that were marked in such a way that made clear that the information must be protected," the charging documents said.

I’m confused.
Can’t really tell from the article if he was pro or anti Trump.
That’s a good start, Kash. Keep it up.
Why does it make a difference? If the guy leaked classified materials to associates because he was writing a book, he should go down regardless.
...Far-right billionaire Peter Thiel revealed as FBI informant: report

German-American far-right billionaire investor Peter Thiel was just revealed as an FBI informant as recently as 2021, according to a new report from Insider.
Insider reported that alt-right activist Charles Johnson, also an FBI informant, initially introduced Thiel to Los Angeles-based FBI agent Johnathan Buma, who investigates political corruption and foreign influence campaigns. Following Johnson’s introduction, the FBI allegedly added Thiel to its official database of “confidential human source” (CHS) informants, according to Insider.
In order to be added to this database, multiple layers of approval are typically required, and only those able to provide “valuable information ... on a recurring basis” are given CHS status. Once admitted to the CHS database, informants are then given a code name and a serial number to categorize reports..../snip MSN
From the article:
While the investigation into Buma appears to have begun during the Biden administration — with several news outlets reporting on an FBI raid on his home in late 2023 — Buma has been a vocal critic of how the first Trump administration handled classified information that Trump’s former personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, was the target of a Russian influence operation.
Agent should have known to clam up. Just give name, rank and number of hush money payoffs he took from Joe and Hunter.
I just love a feel good story like this.
Why does it make a difference? If the guy leaked classified materials to associates because he was writing a book, he should go down regardless.

Didn’t brandon do the same thing?
bkmk
Russia, Russia again?
Not far right as the headline claims. More libertarian.
I will take ANTI !
“An FBI agent who claimed former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani might have been “compromised” by Russian intelligence agents while working in the first Trump administration was arrested Monday on charges related to the alleged unauthorized disclosure of confidential information.”
Try this version
“Buma, who has publicly criticized the first Trump administration’s handling of classified information related to purported Russian influence operations, knew the information he took from the FBI was protected and that he was not authorized to share it, according to the filing.”
It matters. DEFINITELY ANTI
“Buma has filed statements with congressional investigators outlining his findings related to Giuliani and detailing his allegations that senior bureau officials shut down his investigative efforts and later retaliated against him. Buma’s claims, some of which leaked this summer, received substantial media attention, including from Mother Jones, in part because he has countered GOP arguments that the bureau was eager to investigate Trump allies but was reluctant to look into Hunter Biden. Buma claims the opposite was true. He asserted in a statement filed with the Senate Judiciary Committee that FBI agents moved quickly to scrutinize information on Hunter Biden’s business activities, even as his own investigation into Giuliani was shut down without explanation. (Buma has said that his investigative work was the first to turn up certain pieces of information related to Hunter Biden’s Ukraine dealings.)
“
Sounds like the “former” FBI agent didn’t follow the rules and no may have to pay the price.
If Mother Jones is publishing him, he’s definitely Lefty and anti-Trump.
The guy would have been hired in 2010, squarely in the Obama Administration. Anyone hired or promoted in that era is suspect until proven otherwise.
The Biden administration started the investigation into this guy which may be a clue that the guy was not a Democrat partisan. He should be charged with leaking classified info if indeed he was doing so regardless of his political leanings.
Right-I couldn’t tell if it was badly written or if I just wasn’t getting it
