Senator Rand Paul's amendment to codify reductions in foreign aid as identified by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was defeated in the U.S. Senate with a vote of 27-73.
The amendment sought to amend the House-passed Continuing Appropriations Act to reduce USAID funding, but it did not garner the necessary simple majority. This vote highlighted a division within the Republican Party, as 26 Republicans, alongside all Democrats, voted against the cuts.

I could wish that Rand Paul would ask Trump what he could do to support the greatest reigning in of government likely to occur in his lifetime.
Be a team player, Rand, and help out.
73 reasons why we need DOGE and term limits.
One more time, 26 Republicans paying lip service to “cutting spending” . . .
Well there you are. The RINO warmonger contingency.
It’s disgusting they do this doublespeak.
Almost all senators on both sides of the aisle have voted for this stuff in the past. They know how the bread is baked and where the bodies are buried. As citizens, we need comprehensive campaign finance reform combined with term limits to get America back on track. They dont need to be primaried....they need to be replaced.
You need to repeal that 17th Amendment it was never supposed to even be like this
I agree with the sentiment of codifying the reductions, but if it had passed the government would be shut down until the HOR would return and vote for the amendment. Any amendment that passed, even this one, would change the resolution the House already approved.
We need to get the “regular order” on a supercharged rail for completion, before the Budget Reconciliation.

FWIW
“In case you missed it – Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA) sat down with Washington Post columnist Salena Zito and Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) to talk about how they can work together to create and protect jobs in Pennsylvania, support the United States’ strongest ally in the Middle East, Israel, and more. McCormick and Fetterman are one of only three bipartisan delegations in the Senate, and they are working to collaborate and deliver wins in Washington for all Pennsylvanians.”
That’s what they always say
“We’ll fight next time, I promise...”
What, no Cornyn!!!!
I guess he’s feeling some ‘footsteps’ here in Texas.
He’s up to his old tricks
Usually he’s on this list but dude has an election. He’s so transparent
The only one that somewhat surprises me is, Senator Grassley.
I agree with you my FRiend. The other downside was that if the HOR had not gotten the CR passed, we would be living under the Senate passed resolution of just half a loaf authored by Lindsey Graham.
I think that Rand has lived under the laziness and timidity of fellow Republican Senators much better than I could. He tries, and makes a point when he does.

DOGE undercovers $billions in fraud - and not only that - money going to neo-marxist groups abroad and at home, NGO’s and Trumps political enemies at home.
People like Rand Paul and Thomas Massie say - Good job! Let’s be sure to take that allocated money out of the next budget. In fact - let’s have a budget, instead of these fraudulent “continuing resolutions.”
DID YOU KNOW - Congress has completed appropriations before the start of the fiscal year only 4 times in the past 40 years?
The last time Congress completed al budget bills on time was 20 years ago, in 1996. Instead of a functioning appropriations process, Congress has resorted to massive omnibus appropriations bills and continuing resolutions that carry over spending from the previous year. The federal government spent half of the last 40 years operating under 175 different short-term funding bills. The last budget passed, even late, was under Trump in 2018.
How did government become so super-bloated with Covid and especially under Biden - because WE HAVE NO BUDGET. Just huge omnibus bills, that no one can read, stuffed to the gills with fraud and grift.
Trump should be helping Rand Paul - not the other way around.
Paul and Massie are the FEW voices in congress demanding this end.
And so-called “conservatives” are calling them traitors. How sad the FR mob is.
No tickee, no washee.
Another few years the congress may have five things they did in their jobs during the last 45 years?!
So the reason McCormick voted against this bill is because he wants more foreign aid for Israel?
McCormick and Fetterman are one of only three bipartisan delegations in the Senate, and they are working to collaborate and deliver wins in Washington for all Pennsylvanians.
And for Israel. Mustn't forget how critical Israel is to the well-being of Pennsylvanians.
First rule for understanding legislators: They never let an opportunity to evade responsibility go to waste.
Since Trump has already taken the initiative on Foreign Aid cuts, the weasel brigade is happy to have a free ride without risking blamed for every negative occurrence worldwide for the next 100 years.
In this case, the effect on passage of the CR gives them a valid excuse.
