Illinois Homeschoolers Under Attack
Illinois Family Institute ^ | 3/13/2025 | Alex Newman

Even as suicide, drug abuse, sexual depravity, gender confusion, illiteracy, and violence reach record levels among children in Illinois government schools, leftist lawmakers and far-left media propagandists are painting a giant target on the backs of homeschool families in the state.

Homeschoolers, who on average perform better than their government-educated peers on every metric, are preparing to fight back. But in a deep blue state like Illinois, concerns are growing as policymakers consider a bill to impose more government control over homeschooling families after about 75 years of relative freedom in the state.

The latest assault on the homeschool community in Illinois began with an error-riddled hit piece last summer in the far-left online outlet Pro Publica expressing concerns about a “historic exodus from public schools.”

HB 2827 originally included private schools, but the bill was "weakened" to homeschools only to garner favorability. There's a reason for the exodus in public schools. Parents don't want WOKE children are unable to read or write.

Illinoisans, please sign a witness slip before the March 19th hearing.

The meat and potatoes within the linked article:

The legislation, known as “the Homeschool Act” or HB2827, would order parents to register like sex-offenders when they decide to educate their children at home.

In addition to mandatory registration, the measure also introduces new conditions including educational criteria for parents and reporting requirements for parents who seek to homeschool.

Perhaps most troublingly for homeschool families, it allows government to launch investigations into families and their home education on a whim.

The bill would also force private schools to register with the state and hand over data on students.

I would only just supplement this post with some additional information:

https://www.illinoispolicy.org/every-9-minutes-21-seconds-illinois-loses-another-resident/

“Illinois loses a resident every 9 minutes and 21 seconds to another state, according to the most recent estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.Illinois lost a total of 56,235 residents to other states from July 2023 to June 2024. That’s more than the entire population of Oak Lawn.”

And then of course there’s the declining birth rates.

I’m not surprised they’ve gone after the Home Schooling crowd as more people pull their kids from the public schools. The public schools in states like Illinois are BIG employers of “Democrats”, particularly in the major urban areas and Education/Public Employees (State Workers) are an ever increasing percentage of total employment as business interests flee Illinois and other high taxation states.

They don’t care about the kids; they care about their jobs and the money the unions plow into the Democrat Party.

That, alone should be grounds for doing away with this absurd get the homeschoolers Bill as well as any fed funding for public schools.

Also concerning is that the bill, as written, opens the door for unelected bureaucrats to require more and more information from families and even add new restrictions on homeschooling families without legislative oversight.

Even more troubling, it paves the way for criminal prosecutions and potentially even the removal of children from the homes of families that fail to comply with the new regime, HSLDA warned.

They won't hesitate.

This is evil, they are desperately seeking to warp and twist the young into the mold of their own wickedness.

This is not a battle against flesh and blood.

Tim Walz was another not dissimilar who they wanted to install into the Presidency having an identical degeneracy to the godless corrupt leaders of Illinois and California.

This is a backdoor way to push the WOKE agenda, vaccines, “approved” curriculum, LGBTQ ideology, etc.

Once homeschoolers exit to private Christian schools to escape targeting, private schools will be amended into the act.

Smash the statehouse doors down with a battering ram, take the authors of the bill into custody, and take them to Federal detention

Back in the day when I was homeschooling HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Assoc.) was a pack of pro homeschool attorneys who kept the statist bastards at bay. I wonder if they are still around.

As a rule public school is good at socialization of our kids.
It sucks at educating them.
I would sit at the dinner table and do my University homework and My daughter would do her homework.
I’d look it over and tell her she had three wrong answers.
(I was a Math major). She angrily asked which ones?
I said if I told you that you won’t learn,
Fix it! She did.
That is home schooling.

President Trump should cut off education funding to Illinois, as he did to Maine when that state refused to follow directives on men in women’s sports.

We attend Mass at a relatively conservative Catholic Church that has no elementary school. A lot of large homeschool families attend which I love. We’ve gotten to know some of them and the children are happy, well adjusted and polite. I’m praying that our son and DIL don’t vaccinate and home school our baby granddaughter. I don’t tell them to do anything but I know that they pay attention to things. They did a home birth so they’re open to making their own decisions about these important things.
