‘Manipulative’ Putin Doesn’t Really Want Peace, Stalling For Time Says Zelensky of Ceasefire Talks
Breitbart ^ | 03/14/2025 | Oliver JJ. Lane

President Donald Trump and European leaders cautiously welcomed Russia’s President Vladimir Putin saying he accepted the basic precepts of a ceasefire, but Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky warns Moscow demanding concessions is a “predictable” bid to derail talks altogether.

On Thursday, a delegation of American negotiators had talks in Moscow, Russia, in hope of agreeing step one of President Trump’s Ukraine peace plan, a 30-day ceasefire. President Putin said Russia supports the notion in general terms, but said “there are issues that we need to discuss, and I think that we need to discuss it with our American colleagues and partners” before actually agreeing.

There is this woman in her 50s from the Ukraine at work. She came to the United States in 1989. Very good woman hates communism and as a fan of trump.

But she is dead set against Trump's foreign policy about Ukraine. She's very pro zelensky, wants all the land back that Russia took, and everything is Russian propaganda. Plus if we did the mineral deal she feels Ukraine should not pay the United States any money back.

“I don’t want to negotiate because that other guy is stubborn”

That is the epitome of irony/hypocrisy

Where I live, there is a significant community of people from the various former USSR, and I have quite a few in my circles. There is a huge disconnect between people who came from Ukraine years ago (and are thus settled in the USA, more or less disconnected from Ukraine) and the recent arrivals.

The ones who are settled are generally “rah rah Ukraine, yeah Zelensky, fight on!” types of people. The recent arrivals tend to be “Zelensky is a faggot, just end the war already, we don’t need Crimea and Donbass”.

My observation is that it’s really easy to be pro-war when you don’t have personal skin in the game other than your patriotic feelings.

No nato membership, no western troops, no western weapons/support, no intel sharing, no biolabs, no land returned (autonomous region) and no sanctions.

And no zelensky. Mineral deal: Ok.

I fully expect Putin to lay it out essentially as I wrote it. I don’t find anything disagreeable except the decision to renew intel & arms to the ukes during ceasefire negotiations.

Denial of US/western involvement in creation of this quagmire only serves the narrow range of interests which brought us here and drained us of tens of billion$$.

But she is dead set against Trump's foreign policy about Ukraine. She's very pro zelensky, wants all the land back that Russia took,

And why is that OUR problem?

If she feels that strongly about Ukraine she should repatriate herself and fight for Ukraine standing on Ukrainian soil.

In the past week, in Kursk... 20,000+ KIA and 50,000+ WIA, and all who remain are surrounded. Hence, as Putin so apthly stated that Ukraine should have asked the USA to get the cease fire.... That the Uke’s were under threat from Trump to simply get them to show up and Zelinski spout off about never recognizing any Russian gains on the Ground.

Putin furthe stated that the Uke’s have singular choice now, e.g., either surrender or die.

Ukraine must state that they will halt all resupply and strengthening of their positions before a cease fire is enacted.

The freeze Putin demands is that all movement is frozen.

Thus, even Trump will not be able to move the Brits who own the Uke’s on the issue of cease fire.

Time to die.

“Zelensky’s assertions are certainly based in fact, even if Ukraine has been guilty of much of the same in the past.”

I don’t know why people are getting bent out of shape with every word that Putin and Zelensky say. They are both circling each other, doing their dance to get an advantage. This is the negotiating phase; they want to be able to save face and be seen as strong, and Trump’s team has to take precautions to allow each side make concessions as a sign of dealing from strength.

It is going to be difficult.

“The recent arrivals tend to be “Zelensky is a faggot, just end the war already, we don’t need Crimea and Donbass”.”

Tell me about it! I do think Trump has realized that we never had Crimea and Donbass and we did JUST FINE without it. And even if Trump wanted it, he knows it would take WW3 to get it...if anyone is even around to grab it at that point.

I have a polish friend who went through a minefield to escape communism. The polish aren’t fans of Ukraine or Russia, but they apparently (for good reason) hate the Russians more. He wants the war to continue, says the Russians are all propaganda all of the time, and see little z as a hero. He does laugh when I call Putin “Vlad the Invader”.

Putin raised some important points in his public response to a 30 day ceasefire.

1) How does the ceasefire get implemented along a 2000km front line?

2) Are weapon shipments halted during the ceasefire?

3) Are military forces left in place or are they allowed to move?

4) who enforces the ceasefire and what are the consequences for breaking it?

5) what happens to negotiations during the ceasefire?

The Russians aren’t going to agree to a ceasefire that puts them at a disadvantage and who can blame them?

It’s not about what Putin wants; he wants Ukraine and all the former Soviet territory back. It’s about what he and the Ukrainians will be compelled to accept.

Here is the disconnect with your friend who escaped the Soviet Union in 1989. When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, Russia rethought everything they did and moved away from communism to Free Market reforms and freedom for Russia’s people. Since the mid 90s Russia has experienced an economic miracle, with 5 to 20 GDP growth per year. During this time Ukraine stagnated and suffered under unbearable political corruption. Normal Ukrainians saw their wealthy Russian relatives build businesses, accumulate wealth, and go on vacations. Many wanted to share in that wealth and voted for Pro-Russian candidates (including my distant relatives). Your friend must not understand the disenfranchised voters of Eastern Ukraine, nor the problem with overthrowing governments and weaponizing them against the people.
