The Danes and the Greenlanders: How They See Trump's America
American Thinker ^ | 03/13/2025 | Stephen Helgesen

I am afraid that the Danes are in danger of losing their good old-fashioned judgment, especially when it comes to the U.S.A. and its people.

I am in Denmark, and the other day, I listened to a podcast from a popular Danish radio station where the guest host claimed that Donald Trump was the worst thing that could happen to the world and that Denmark should end its alliance with what he called "Trump's U.S.A."

Even though he was asked several times what specifically should be done, he danced around the question and refused to be precise.

To me, the podcast and the guest host were examples of the many provocative broadcasts and bombastic headlines that the media here produce almost around the clock, all aimed at painting a negative image of the U.S.A. for ordinary viewers and listeners.

I hasten to add that many of these debate programs and interviews are edited by well-meaning professional media personnel and that many panels are staffed by experienced academics and other so-called "America experts."

Unfortunately, there are just as many who repeat the same talking points and big headlines that other programs and pundits have previously expressed. Eventually, they turn into an endless cascade of negative opinions based on a lack of facts and knowledge of the intracacies of our culture.

But this wave of contempt and disappointment toward America is indeed real and exists to an even greater extent today than under previous Democratic presidents.

Yet many Danes who claim that America has failed them forget that we Americans, just like them, have to live with our elected leaders, regardless of their leadership competence or prowess. That’s how it is with Western democracies and, in our case, a country with a constitutional republic consisting of 50 states.

Hating on the US is kind of a European tradition.

With respect to Greenland, the country just held its elections this week and the ruling party was forced out of power. The new winner is a party that is leaning towards self-governance and got 29.9% of the votes, together with the very pro-separatist party that will probably form a coalition together with them.

The new government will use its newfound voter support to pressure the Danish government for more money and more self-determination.

Before Trump started showing interest in Greenland the Greenlanders felt they were riding in the back of the Danish realm’s bus.

That has not changed how the Danes feel about the U.S., however. A recent poll conducted by the leading Danish newspaper, Berlingske Tidende, shows a dramatic fall from grace among ordinary Danes with respect to their attitudes to Americans.

In one of the Narnia Chronicles books, there is a scene where a witch starts playing a song, and one by one the Aslan-followers fall under its spell—until one of them, Puddleglum, realizes what is happening, and to break the spell he sticks his foot right into the fire, screams from the pain, and the power of the witch is broken.

It is becoming increasingly evident that we have been slowly been falling under a globalist spell since the fall of the Soviet Union 35 years, and Trump is sticking the world’s foot in the fire to cause enough pain to break the spell.

To quote Russell Lowell, truth is on the scaffold, wrong is on the throne, but the scaffold sways the future. The future is becoming now, and wrong is about to end up on the scaffold.

Eff 'em all!

They should be so lucky as to elect a President Trump.

I don't think that I have given one second of concern to what the Dane's think of the U.S. This article didn't change that at all.

Hard to believe that a country with such a strong Viking history has become what it has. Denmark resisted the Nazi invasion in WWII for a grand total of 6 hours. Even the French held out for 6 weeks.

How could the murderous thieving Vikings turn into such whining feminized wimps?

(it was probably the shield maidens)

Oh, those Shield Maidens!

Sigh. We have modern day versions of “Shield Maidens”, but they are better known as “Harpies” (Shrill voice, but no fighting skills!)

Give each Greenlander a top of the line snowmobile and a years ration of whale meat.
Take over Greenland with the Air Force and US troops.
Tell the do-nothing Danes to take a hike.
Send all Obama-Biden judges there to work on the fishing boats. Think prime huge Halibuts.

A backhanded slap on Trump.

It amazes me how the Canadians and Euro think we give rats ass about them. I could care less about those countries. Their sense of self importance is astonishing.
