YouTube, once a haven for video enthusiasts, has become a platform overrun with advertisements. It’s not uncommon for users to encounter multiple ads before, during, and after their desired video content. This begs the question: what’s driving the proliferation of ads on YouTube?
YouTube’s primary revenue stream is through its Partner Program, which allows content creators to monetize their videos through advertisements. The platform takes a 45% cut of the ad revenue, while the creator receives 55%. This model has proven to be incredibly lucrative, with top YouTubers earning millions of dollars annually.
However, this revenue-sharing model has created an environment where content creators are incentivized to prioritize ad revenue over user experience. The more ads displayed, the higher the revenue potential. This has led to a surge in ad frequency and duration, leaving users frustrated and seeking ad-free alternatives.

Looks like a good time to start a YT channel!
50¢ a day to get rid of ads.
The “Premium” version solves that problem...
YouTube is hardly the only medium afflicted by too many ads. Normal broadcast networks as well as many cable networks are getting just unwatchable.
The normal program has an ad break almost every 7 or 8 minutes. This consists of at least 9 or 10 ads that you just suffered through 10 minutes earlier. And then, on the half hour, close to 15 ads are run making you want to puke.
And then one of my pet peeves, I’m sitting there watching a show from let us say, HGTV. The commercial break starts and the ad is promoting the same show that I am currently watching! Does that make sense?
The best thing invented for ad intrusion is the DVR. Record the program and fast forward through the damn ads.
There are adblockers that will block those pesky ads, though YT is doing their darnedest to stop them from doing that.
Brave browser
I don’t like the ads infringing on the videos. I mute most of them unless they’re interesting. Annoying that they cut to an ad right at a point where you are focused on the video content. Ads are mostly irrelevant to me, not like I’m going to buy any of the items advertised. They’re targeting less than 1 percent of viewers to make a sale; with thousands of viewers they’re bound to recover cost of the ad - while annoying the other 99 percent of viewers.
I grew tired of being bombarded with commercials on Ewwtoob using the Safari browser, some being the length of infomercials. Brave browser took care of that problem.
It costs a lot to provide this service, my Friends. FR as well. Be a Monthly Donor!
I put something up once in a while using my own stuff.
For a few years, I didn’t do anything with submissions to YouTube.
Guess the USAID money ran out…
What kind of stuff do you put up? Do you add your own commentary?
Use Brave browser. No more ads.
That’s why I actually pay for premium. The pain point got too high.
Both presenters and advertizers must quickly come to their key points.
Few ads should be more than 30 seconds.
Pay up and you’ll never see another commercial again.
If you don’t mind providing a credit card number.
“There are adblockers that will block those pesky ads”
You mind sharing a little more detail on that?
