Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, urged the U.S. to reevaluate its funding and continued participation in the North American Treaty Organization (NATO) this weekend, and the bold statement got the attention of Department of Government Efficiency chief Elon Musk.
"Exit NATO *now*!" Lee wrote in a midnight X post, sharing a video of nude, chest-painted women marching in protest in Paris.
Lee's post got the attention of Musk minutes later.
"We really should," Musk replied on X. "Doesn't make sense for America to pay for the defense of Europe."
NATO has been criticized for almost a decade by President Donald Trump, who has long questioned why the U.S. is on the hook for the majority of funding for World War II-era European defense alliance.
U.S. GDP is roughly equal to that of the rest of the NATO alliance combined, but the treaty only offers security guarantees for Europe at massive U.S. expense, Trump argues.
Trump has long hailed getting European countries to ramp up their spending to the 2% or 3% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and after the Biden administration saw Russia's Vladimir Putin invade Ukraine, Trump has ramped up the calls for commitments to be closer to 5% of GDP.
Once Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy balked at quickly signing a minerals deal with the Trump administration in a ballyhooed Oval Office dustup, Trump has paused for review the military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

I support this.
Euro NATO, being so much overlapped with the EU, is developing severe divergences in interests with the US.
That has already come under severe stress with the Trump admin. Personally I think it may be temporary on the part of Trump as his own motivations (in re Russia) don’t seem to ever have been particularly well developed, but the damage is still great and may not be recoverable.
👍👍👍
Not a single American soldier has been killed in combat defending NATO in Europe since NATO began more than 75 years ago.
I view NATO's worth as an ounce of prevention being worth a pound of cure.
The Republican Party has been subverted by FSB active measures. I never thought I would see the day where the American right decided to side with Russia over its NATO allies. Never in a million years.
**I view NATO’s worth as an ounce of prevention being worth a pound of cure.**
There’s only one problem: It’s the ‘ounce’.
It’s like the rich paying their ‘fair share’.

Mike Benz says a very corrupt NATO has become an integral part of the globalist deep state.
I'm not sad at all. The EU has turned into a totalitarian super state where the EUSSR government is not elected democratically. They UE/NATO states are canceling elections and putting Europeans in prison for speaking. They are not our ally anymore.
NATO like every other Western institution has been thoroughly corrupted by pedophiles and kiddie trafficking globalists. Not even the United States is capable of winning wars anymore. NATO members don’t even have the stones to save their own citizens from being conquered by third world turd eaters yet somehow everyone is supposed to believe they can win a war against Russia when it’s been proven NATO simply can’t win wars.
NATO serves no purpose for us now—other than being a financial drain. The fact that we could get dragged into a military confrontstion makes it even much worse.
No.
The big problem is that we are paying MUCH more than that ounce you referred to.
Agree.
I TOTALLY agree with Musk and Lee on this get the hell out of NATO!!
We are paying a POUND for that one ounce of cure you mentioned. No thanks.
That’s because you’re smart.
It’s time, NATO has been totally corrupted by leftist globalists. It bears little resemblance to what it was.

Agree, but then you’re repeating yourself.
