For years, the Biden-Harris administration and the legacy media have insisted that Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a valiant defender of democracy. The narrative has been relentless—from the halls of Congress to the editorial pages of newspapers on both sides of the Atlantic: Zelenskyy is a modern Churchill, courageously leading his people against tyranny.

As Ted Galen Carpenter outlined in The American Conservative:
Under his rule, the Ukrainian government has outlawed nearly a dozen opposition parties, stifled the press, launched a campaign against uncooperative churches, and has conducted a program of arbitrary imprisonment, torture, and assassination.

The idea that Zelenskyy was ever a guardian of liberal democracy is a convenient Western illusion. Long before Russian troops crossed the border, Ukraine’s government was already displaying autocratic tendencies.
Freedom House’s 2022 report ranked Ukraine as only “partly free,” scoring 61 out of 100 points. Human Rights Watch’s 2021 report detailed disturbing abuses by Ukrainian government forces... “including arbitrary detentions, torture or ill-treatment.”
Journalists and media workers faced harassment and threats simply for reporting on corruption or government mismanagement. The censorship, political purges, and suppression of dissent that Zelenskyy escalated during wartime had already taken root well before February 2022.
The difference now? The war gave Zelenskyy the ultimate excuse.

Unfortunately he seems to have become more of a Chicken Kiev.
The Fresh Prince of Welfare
Zee is less trustworthy than a Nigerian prince; at least I know my Nigerian prince is going to repay me someday!!
All I need to know about Zelensky is he helped impeach Trump. After that I have as much need for him as I have for Dan from Squirrel Hill.

Worse, he campaigned for Harris. Inflicting Harris on the American people is not the act of a friend.

The creep is a grifting, little perv.
I saw somewhere on here that the yellow stripe on their flag represents ‘gay’, but I can’t remember what the ‘blue’ represents.
The UKE flag represents this:
NOW I remember...yellow stripe for ‘gay’, blue stripe for ‘vaccinated’. Easy to remember... :-)
I knew it was part of a media blitz when the "I Stand With Ukraine" buttons started popping up everywhere. The photo with John McCain clinched it
Very cute. Very funny! I also know my Nigerian prince will pay me back someday too! On a serious note, I have heard that Zelinskyy is merely following their constitution’s provisions for in time of war. Does anyone know if this is true? How do people not lose their rights during wartime?
The only "churches" suppressed are congregations of the Russian Orthodox Church acting as agents of Moscow.
The only opposition parties shut down are pro-Russian parties, just like we shut down the German Bund organization in WWII.
What's most impressive to me is that the Ukrainians arrest and convict spies for Russia but simply give them long prison sentences instead of having them shot.
Your hate is misplaced, because everything wrong with this country has nothing to do with Ukraine, which has a right to defend itself.
If you want to hate someone, hate the US political and business elite who have destroyed this country internally, and who have sent our men to fight and die with no intention of victory for 80 years.
How do you feel about Trump who has cut off new weapons to Ukraine?
Shut it, neocon.
The russophobes find "agents of Moscow" anywhere they find convenient. They're following the Bolshevik playbook: invent a fake "church" (then: the "Living Church," today: the "Orthodox Church of Ukraine"), declare all Orthodox not joining the new government church "enemies of the people," and confiscate the properties of the true Orthodox Church. The US State Dept. (and, eventually, Constantinople) has been backing this tactic, but that's coming to an end.
If the Democrats like the Zelensky version of “our Democracy”, then they should all move to the Ukraine.
