Trump threatens massive sanctions on Russia for continued attacks on Ukraine, tells Moscow and Kyiv ‘get to the table right now’

President Trump threatened massive sanctions against Russia on Friday over its continued attacks on Ukraine as he attempts to broker a cease-fire in the more than three-year war between the nations.

“Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!!!”

If there’s one thing that unites Russia, Ukraine, and Europe is that none if their leaders wants Trump to get the credit or satisfaction for making peace.

“Comrade Krasnov, you are giving the game away by going so far up my ass. Post something on truth social threatening me with sanctions so that the fools can point to it and say it shows you aren’t my puppet.”

The Dems want to keep this going for some private reasons.

Why wouldn’t the Russians be pounding the Ukrainians now? They’re taking advantage of the pause in US military aid to Ukraine.

The Russians have been pounding the Ukrainians for some time, losing US intel just means they'll now be losing faster.

US envoy Keith Kellogg compared Ukraine losing US military assistance to hitting a donkey in the head with a 2x4...in both cases its intended to get their attention

Hopefully US will get the LNG port near Philadelphia going and start supplying Europe with energy. Europe is indirectly funding Russian war efforts and should not buy Russian oil and energy until there’s a peace deal.
I think he could tell Canada to back off on cutting energy supplies to US by invoking NATO security concerns that take precedence over current trade disputes.
This would be a good way to punt on the trade disputes.

I see this as Trump trying to take control of the “table” at negotiations.

May be he has accepted that the Euroweenies have made their best offer with some “chest thumping” and some dubious promises about future defense spending.

And the Euroweenies are using this as leverage to keep “the little dictator” in the loop.

Looks to me like the Euroweenies are setting up Trump to fail which prolongs this war which is unwinnable.

It is all about Trust.

Zelensky can’t trust Putin.

Zelensky has given Trump good reason not to trust him.

Trump trusts Putin to be Putin which is someone like all bad actors who only understands a force equal to or greater than himself.

Trump trusts the Euroweenies to be the Euroweenies which is to be hostage to any moment and react only out of each’s narrow self-interest.

Ultimately, I don’t think Putin will do any deal which Zelensky is a part of.

Trump will LIKELY not make a deal.

How can he, neither side’s self-interest benefits a peace.

Trump is in a difficult position.

How to exit the UNGRATEFUL leeching Ukranians more gracefully than Joey exited the UNGRATEFUL leeching Afghanis?

The actual problem is that we want to stop paying. And a ceasefire doesn’t solve any of the problems anymore than a ceasefire in 1944 would have, or one in Gaza right now.

He smart enough about deals to know we are someone with low credibility ergo badly wants a deal. That’s a weak position.

And even if the Russians trust Trump, they know most of DC are big Ukraine and Euro fans. If they sign a bad deal, in 3 years they will face a rearmed Ukraine, flooded with NATO people and having a defacto nato status

That is a valid point.

I'm on the record of being no fan of Vance, although he has learned quickly to speak the language of Trump.

I don't think he is "natural" America First guy and could be easily seduced by the neocon scourge who is having to sit back in the shadows during this term of Trump.

It is dismaying to know that Elise Stefanik can't be confirmed as UN Ambassador because the House needs her to stay in place because their margin is so slim.

I think she is America First material more than Vance and I would like to see her get in place and show if she has some foreign policy chops.

Ambassador to the UN is a good place to establish yourself on the national stage.

Nikki Haley launched her candidacy off of it.

Horrible idea.

Doubling down on Biden's failed sanction war won't have any impact on Russia but will hurt us.

It's one thing to use sanctions and tariffs to achieve fair trade, keep jobs in the country and secure the border.

It's quite another to do something that will hurt Americans with absolutely NO benefit for American citizens.

Trump needs to drop this idea.

Drill, baby, drill is the only thing that effect Russia.
