Has the Liberal surge peaked already?
The Numbers ^ | March 6, 2025 | Eric Grenier

A series of polls published last week put the Liberals and Conservatives neck-and-neck. This week, the numbers are putting Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives back in front by a sizeable margin. Has the Liberal surge already ended?

This week on The Numbers, we dissect the latest federal polling numbers. We also do a round of over/unders on Sunday’s Liberal leadership race where Mark Carney is heavily favoured to win, plus we discuss some new polling out of Quebec.

KEYWORDS: canada
Probable reversion to a mean---Carney likely will improve somewhat, but likely the election is Poilievre's to loose, although whether a minority or majority is unclear

Ping Canada Ping

The guess on when the next election is called is within two weeks of the conclusion of the Liberal leadership race, which is this Sunday.

You had some thoughts about the polls last week-—things look to be reverting this week.

I feel for Poilievre. He has to carefully navigate through the utter insane level of TDS here in Canada. It will pretty much be decided by who the country hates more....Trudeau or President Trump.

“Has the Liberal surge already ended?”

There was one?

Hard to think the Canadians want more of the same with their”liberals” . It seems they may embrace communism more than freedom.

Trudeau resigned as head of the party over Christmas when the polls showed the Liberals potentially slipping as low as 40 seats. Last week the projections had a liberal minority at 35% due to a more than 10 point rise over the low.

It'll help if Trump would stop trolling. And no tariffs until the election's over.

This tariff ping-ping from Trump and Lutnick sure hasn’t helped Poilievre. Trump needs him to win and then join him in the critical move to get Greenland.

Beginning in the 1950s, all the predictions about “peak oil” turned into scientific theory late term abortions. Sadly, “peak leftism” is impossible. The creeping dark side of Earth regenerates millions of leftists in an abiogenic process. One thing is certain, the market supply of leftism far exceeds the demand. “Peak leftism” is impossible, but “peak demand” for leftism occurs in frequent cycles of blood and death.

Poilievre would be great for Canada, but he has his work cut out. Canada’s GDP per capita has been slipping behind that of the United States ever since Trudeau took power.

Is Poilievre the answer to what Trump wants from, or plans for, Canada?

I sense that even if Poilievre is elected in a landslide, Trump want’s something else or some more radical change in Canada

I admit I don’t know exactly what it is.

Yes! I’ll just say reads just like Kamala’ s rise & dramatic fall, based on left leaning & paid polls. Also like how the new media is so much better at due diligence!

The polls were rigged, the polls were structured to favour Marx Carney

They should have let Ruby Dhalla run
