U.S., Israel reject Gaza reconstruction plan backed by Arab nations

Arab nations, led by Egypt, that have strongly rejected President Trump's proposal for the U.S. to "take over" the Gaza Strip and displace its more than 2 million Palestinian residents so the enclave can be turned into a luxury real estate development have offered an alternative plan. Leaders from the 22-nation Arab League attended a summit in Cairo Tuesday and unanimously adopted the Egyptian proposal, which does not foresee any of Gaza's residents being forced to leave during reconstruction.

The Trump administration, along with its close allies in Israel, quickly rejected the plan, with the White House reiterating the president's contention that the destruction wrought on Gaza during Israel's 15-month war with Hamas has made the enclave uninhabitable.

Hamas backed the Arab plan, but has consistently refused to disarm as part of any ceasefire agreement, something Israel considers essential.

The Arab Plan did not require Hamas to give up control or to disarm.

Israel shouldn’t have let some of them return to north Gaza. Israel should have rebuilt north Gaza and let Israelis move to it.

Add another mile to buffer zone between Israel and Gaza. Near Gaza, dig a 100 foot deep swale(Make tunneling impossible).

If Egypt and the other Arab nations were willing themselves to take responsibility for Gaza, that would be fine. Even the most preferred solution.

But they're not. So instead, it looks like their plan is for other countries to hand over $50+B in reconstruction funds to be administered by Palestinian entities, which have proven themselves to be corrupt, uninterested in peace, and/or not able to build a functioning economy and society.

It's basically just calling for more of the same with massive funding from others. That's a crap proposal.

The Arab reconstruction of Gaza left Hamas on the ground so any construction would benefit Hamas, not the Palestinians and Israel. Trump along with Isreal, is a better plan.

UAE and Saudi Arabia need to team up to deal with Gaza. Saudi Arabia sends in their intelligence teams to find all the Hamas savages then sends in their military to deal with them. Then UAE can build a world class resort similar to what they’ve done with Dubai.
