Hungary and Slovakia to Vote Against Ukrainian Aid Package
Armstrong Economics ^ | 5 Mar 25 | Martin Armstrong

The war in Ukraine has disproportionately hurt Hungary and Slovakia. To add insult to injury, Zelensky declined to renew a gas line deal that was providing the two European nations with essential energy. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico have once again broken ties with the European Union and shot down the latest Ukrainian aid package.

Fico has said that he would not send Ukraine another euro and called “peace through strength” measures “unrealistic.” Furthermore, Fico sees through Zelensky’s victimization and is reportedly “sick” of his games. “He roams Europe begging and blackmailing, asking others for money. This needs to stop,” Fico adamantly said.

Hungary’s Orban wrote a letter to Brussels in which he urged for peace. “I am convinced that the European Union – following the example of the United States – should enter into direct discussions with Russia on a ceasefire and a sustainable peace in Ukraine,” Orban wrote to Antonio Costa, who heads the Council of the EU’s 27 member states. Instead of seeing this man as someone who wants to prevent death and destruction, Western media is pinning him as a Russian tool and Putin ally.

“If the summit does not respect that there are other views than continuing the war, the European Council on Thursday may not be able to agree on conclusions on Ukraine,” Fico said in a Facebook post. Orban said that the differences in opinion “cannot be bridged” but believes that the EU must vote unanimously on the next aid package.

Costa replied to Orban’s letter with a biased anti-Russian stance, claiming that the EU does, in fact, want peace—but they’re unwilling to take any measures to ensure peace. Brussels does not protect its member states. Slovakia and Hungary repeatedly urged Brussels to take their energy crisis into consideration but the EU dismissed their pleas. Now, they’re asking all member states to continually pour money into one of the most corrupt nations in Europe for nothing in return. Brussels is akin to some cult leader begging members for all their funding, promising to protect them from some inevitable threat that will never come before asking them to commit (economic) suicide.

The European Union cannot survive for a plethora of reasons, one being that certain nations no longer wish to see their people live through World War III. We will see on March 6 if the EU respects the vote of all member states or if they blatantly move ahead without unanimous support.

It appears Armstrong’s computer Socrates is right on schedule in forecasting the EU’s fracturing and eventual disintegration.

Do recall, Socrates forecasted a war starting in Ukraine, that was back in 2014, when no one ever heard of the “ country” of Ukraine.

Trump should offer to supply the energy needs to Europe so they can cut off the Russians.

THAT will get Putin to the negotiating table, right quick.

Yeah, but Putin would actually have to make some real concessions.

Everybody will make concessions—that is how deals are done in the real world.

I'm betting there will be a side deal....that Ukraine will renew the contract with Russia to supply the EU and other countries through their lines. EU is a fool if they don't get their fuel costs down.

I also believe Nord 2 will be reopened...there is one viable line still.

Well, folks used to say “the Ukraine” and thought of it as a region of Russia and/or the old Soviet Union as opposed to a nation-state (which it has only been for 3 decades).

Keep in mind, parts of Ukraine were taken from Hungary and Slovakia after WWII.

Many parts of Hungary were taken after world war one, while Austria who dragged them into the war remained untouched.

———-
You are way, way behind, senile Joe has been for awhile, let me bring you up to speed:

“US has replaced Russia as Europe’s top crude oil supplier…”

https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/28/energy/eu-us-oil-imports-overtake-russia/index.html

In addition to oil, we have been also tankering over LNG for awhile. The problem? The poor smucks in the EU are paying 3x-4x more than using Vlad’s cheap energy.

When the West blew up the Nordstream pipeline, they castrated the EU manufacturing industry ( especially Germany- they have closed down 8 or so auto manufacturing factories) and all their citizens are not very happy paying exorbitant heating prices.

Funny how the West tried to” weaken ” Russia, but they destroyed themselves. The best the EU can do is rebuild the pipeline they blew up, Vlad’s pipelined energy was the cheapest on the planet.

Fools they are.

Romania and Poland also lost territory in Stalin's land grab which created the modern Ukraine. Ukraine thought Poland would want Lviv/Lwow back when Russia invaded. Putin had offered to divide Ukraine with Poland. Poland refused and has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine. With that support, Ukraine doesn't need much help from Hungary or Slovakia.

Poland’s support has waned a bit. Zelenskyy has pissed the Poles off several times. Plus Poles are getting tired of all the Ukrainians there and want them to go home.

Even Tusk is basically telling Zelensky to take Trump’s deal.

So basically the Euros are not willing to make the sacrifices, they want the US to make all the sacrifices for them.

They can go to Hell.

Carve up Ukraine to its historic roots, Romania, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Russia all owned parts of Ukraine. Each one of those countries would treat ethnic Ukrainians better than St Z. and insure a lasting Peace.

That would leave Ukraine a tiny Rump nation, incapable of anymore war, and create a very nice buffer zone.

Totally agree. In fact, I thought replacing Russia as the supplier of natural gas was the plan.

Keep in mind the unelected leadership of the EU is not making sacrifices, their citizens are, and suffering badly, huge energy increases, huge supply side shortages, huge inflation, increased taxation, rising unemployment….western MSM simply had not reported how bad it is getting.

In the past year I have ran into Germans, Ukrainians, and a few Brits, ( business related) and the stories about their economy is terrible.

The Bulgarian and Croatian have been effected much less, both buying up distressed properties for pennies on the dollar.

Hungary and Slovakia border Ukraine, and might even have claims to some land now held by Ukraine.
