Before we get to Sir Keir's "peace summit", let us consider the far more relevant news from Paris.
How relevant?
Well, it's the entire history of the contemporary western world in a single news story. And, for those who regretted there weren't more Daryl Hannah moments at last night's Oscars, we hope this makes up. Poets, said Shelley, are "the unacknowledged legislators of the world". So what happens when poets - or at any rate arts administrators - get to make actual policy? Long-ish headline from The Daily Mail:
Left-wing theatre managers who invited 200 migrants to a free show will abandon the building and face bankruptcy as refugees still refuse to leave after three months and spark wave of sex-related violence
And, as it goes for the beautiful Gaîté-Lyrique in Paris, so it will go for France, Germany, the Netherlands, the British Isles, Scandinavia, Your Country Here:
Some 200 mainly young men moved in last December when the management gave them free tickets to a 'Refugees Welcome in France' conference.
Granted, that's a bit too perfect. Had Jean Raspail opened The Camp of the Saints with that, his publisher would have told him to go home and come up with something subtler.
But when the conference was finished, the migrants, who mostly come from France's former west African colonies, refused to leave the venue.
Performances were soon cancelled – losing the theatre thousands in revenue – as makeshift beds were placed around the stage and auditorium.
With no performances to see other than sexual assaults, neighbouring bistros and brasseries have also lost all their business.

No enforcement of the law when it comes to “immigrants”!
I continue to say that the Police exist to protect the Bad Guys from the righteous anger of the Good Guys. This story is all about Bad Guys doing bad things and remaining undisturbed by the police. However, if Good Guys with sticks entered the building and cleared out the Bad Guys, you know the police would swoop in and destroy the lives of the Good Guys.
Police exist to perpetuate a society with a crime problem so that taxpayers live in fear and look to the government for salvation. But the government does not intend to save anyone. The government is, in fact, organized crime itself.
The invading 40 year old immigrants telling French authorities they are “17” to deny arrest reminds me of a similar situation in the U.S.
Where some police depts just ask offenders if they intended a hate crime: “no maaaan he dissed me”.
Police: no hate crime here, he said so.🤦
They’ve let it go too far, & now the government itself is likely afraid of what might happen if they acted. The people are unarmed, & a ruthless & hate filled group like Muslims are likely to do extreme damage if they were suddenly told to behave, or started being deported.
I love reading the comment section of the Daily Telegraph.
Every day there is some poor fellow making essentially the same comment.
He says but Putin is so far away from our shores why not address the 500 military aged young men arriving on shores daily in rubber dingies from France who are not even French.
As Trump might say that just sounds like common sense.
Interesting question. Adolf Hitler wrote poetry, along with Jimmy Carter--no other connection that I can tell. Abraham Lincoln and John Quincy Adams were also poets. Whether their poetic sides were a reason why America spurned Carter for Reagan or JQA for Jackson, I'm not sure.
Forever young!
Those 500 military aged young men could be dragooned into fighting for Ukraine. An easy way to get rid of what is a menace in your own country. Just a thought... :-)
Marking.
The French are so messed up, good thing we do not have to help them in a civil war, which they will have so at the rate they are going.
