When it comes to Ukraine, Europe is delusional
American Thinker ^ | March 2, 2025 | By Uilliam Mac Ruaidhri

European leaders in Brussels declare themselves the “leaders of the free world” while arresting citizens for memes. Likewise, they claim Putin woke up one morning, had a cup of coffee, and attacked the beautiful democracy of Ukraine...“unprovoked.”

Who do they think they’re trying to fool?

Americans ought to know that the war started in 2014 when Yanukovych was forcibly removed from office. Some Ukrainians call it a coup, others a glorious revolution—the only difference being political affiliation.

Supporters of Yanukovych, mostly in Donbas, chose to secede and, like most secessions, it led to a civil war. Much later, the Minsk agreement was brokered to give Donbas some degree of autonomy.

Despite this agreement, Kyiv intermittently shelled the folks in Donbas, most of whom have Russian ethnicity, over a period of six years. In 2022, after years of failed negotiations, Russia decided, rightly or wrongly, to take matters into its own hands, vowing to end the conflict.

I wonder if perhaps it’s time for those who display their Ukrainian flags to rethink what it means: Specifically, does it mean supporting Brussels, a large, inefficient, bureaucratic machine that blames Russia for all of Europe’s economic woes and whose war mongers thump their chest like foot-dragging, knuckle-dragging Neanderthals? Or does it mean supporting the Ukrainian military, which goes door-to-door, dragging men to war, forcing conscription?

How many of us would volunteer to travel to Ukraine to fight on the front-line?

None of that nonsense justified Russia invading Ukraine in 2022.

Russia had far better reasons to be in Ukraine than we did in either Iraq war.

"None of that nonsense justified Russia invading Ukraine in 2022."

You are the like a little bitch. NATO and Europe pulled us into their centuries long compulsion of Europeans to try to invade Russia.

Perhaps in the first but definitely not in the second.

I agree with Williams.

Putin invaded from Belarus driving towards Kiev in order to conquer the whole country. He didn’t (initially) go into eastern Ukraine on some sort of “liberation” operation.

Your "opinion" purposefully ignores all of the history of this conflict except the most immediate.

It ignores (short-list):
  1. NATO's broken promises where encroaching on Russia is concerned.
  2. The shelling of Eastern Ukraine Russian enclaves by the government of Ukraine
  3. The direct discrimination of Russian descendant Ukrainian citizens by the government of Ukraine
  4. The color revolution pushed by Samantha Powers (U.S. and by extension Obama) used to remove a Russia-sympathetic President of Ukraine.

“None of that nonsense justified Russia invading Ukraine in 2022.”

That’s right. Putin is the aggressor and started the war. Ukraine is the victim, and we feel bad for them. But what are we supposed to do about it? Negotiate the best peace deal we can get.

Putin invaded from Belarus driving towards Kiev in order to conquer the whole country.

That completely ignorant statement.

Russia wasn't going to try to take Kiev with 40,000 troops.

It was ruse to distract from what was going on in Donbass.

The Ukrainians were key players in the coup against President Trump. The first impeachment was driven by President Trump's call to Zelensky and Ukrainian-born "whistle-blower" Col. Vindman was the impetus. Col. Vindman was offered the high position of Defense Minister of Ukraine THREE TIMES by the Ukraine - why? The coup against President Trump led us into the Ukraine War and the death of hundreds of thousands of people and the impoverishment of America. We are led by traitors and snakes.

Vindman, 44, explained during his impeachment testimony that he had been offered the position three times but declined the position because of his loyalty to the United States. The lieutenant colonel was born in Ukraine, but his family immigrated to the U.S. when he was a toddler.

Vindman claimed he did not know why he was offered the high ranking position of defense minister.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/vindman-reveals-that-he-had-been-offered-a-position-as-defense-minister-of-ukraine

And, amazingly, after President Trump was only out of office a little over a year we were at war with Russia at the behest of the Ukraine.

O, BS, DS/MSPMS poster.

You failed to overlook the famous NATO red line in the sand.....that was crossed....which was YUGE.

Even 0bie’s See Eye A has admitted this was a provocation.

Thank God Pres Trump won.

The aggression started in 2014 under Obama as the author notes.

We fomented an illegal coup in Ukraine and installed a puppet government hostile to both Moscow and the ethnic Russian population in Ukraine. That threatened Russia's naval base in Crimea it had operated since before the US Constitution was written.

We then trained, funded and armed a 600,000 army on Russia's border.

If China or Russia did anything like that in Mexico, we would have invaded.

Russia wasn't going to try to take Kiev with 40,000 troops.

But those numbers meet Biden's definition of "minor incursion" which was allowed.
