Baseball, which is dying all over the place, should get off its fat, lazy ass, and elect Pete Rose, even though far too late, into the Baseball Hall of Fame!

Major League Baseball didn't have the courage or decency to put the late, great, Pete Rose, also known as "Charlie Hustle," into the Baseball Hall of fame. Now he is dead, will never experience the thrill of being selected, even though he was a FAR BETTER PLAYER than most of those who made it, and can only be named posthumously. WHAT A SHAME! Anyway, over the next few weeks I will be signing a complete PARDON of Pete Rose, who shouldn't have been gambling on baseball, but only bet on HIS TEAM WINNING. He never betted against himself, or the other team. He had the most hits, by far, in baseball history, and won more games than anyone in sports history. Baseball, which is dying all over the place, should get off its fat, lazy ass, and elect Pete Rose, even though far too late, into the Baseball Hall of Fame!

Used to know every batter in the top ten, collected full set of baseball cards, but no longer. Gary Miller was the first to earn millions, now they earn hundreds of millions and not one is worthy. Don’t watch, don’t care anymore

Well, you’re not wrong about that. Both the baseball and the football Hall of Fames are filled with rascals, and worse.

But Rose got himself caught in a major scandal. Maybe they slammed him just to make an example. No matter. Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time (so to speak).

As usual, your mileage may vary.

Same here. When I was a kid I’d take the bus down to the stadium, buy a program, then score the game as I watched it. One mark for hit. Another mark for a sacrifice bunt. That sort of thing.

Then something changed. The season became too long. And the insane salaries also had a part to do with it. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a free country. If you can get $10 million a year to play a child’s game, go for it.

But I can no longer relate.

Sports gambling ruined everything as far as i am concerned.
Knowing human nature and all i have lost all trust in professional sports.....all sports.

Notice all of the gambling commercials star black celebrities and speak to black guys?
Yea..me too.
That’s nice...
Like they don’t have enough problems..
Sports is nothing but a racket now to bleed the weak minded dry.

Agree Pete Rose belongs in the HOF.

The rules changes, pitch clock, "speeding up the game" because the Gen Z'ers and Millenials have the attention spans of tse'tse flies have ruined the game.

I was never interested in baseball until my son took me to a Seattle Mariners game. Being there in his reserved best seats in the stadium with someone who knew exactly what was going on made a huge difference. I had a wonderful time.

Now I live in a different city, and my cat likes to watch baseball right in front of the table-top set but frankly, I don’t care. Of course, I think the game should go on in the most honest way.

Rose did bet with the bookies. He never bet against his team. He was a fantastic player and coach. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame despite what he did. If he had ever bet against his team he deserves infamy. He did not. The best judge of his character are his teammates and his players when a coach. Ask them.

I’ve stopped watching all sports EXCEPT baseball - it was the only sport I was halfway good at in my younger days. I am still a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, even though they are the most aggravatingly mediocre organization in the game. The eternally shifting cat-and-mouse game between the pitchers and hitters just fascinates me. And yes, there should be a place in the HOF for Rose, along with Shoeless Joe, Barry Bonds and the other cheaters and gamblers who were great players - just in a side wing away from the ones that didn’t cheat or gamble.

I’d probably agree with you if Rose never bet on his team, at all. But he did bet on games his team was in. As you noted, there’s no evidence that he bet against his own team.

But did he change lineups to increase his chance of winning? Did he make risky play calls to increase his chance of winning?

It just stinks too much for Rose to be honored in the Hall of Fame.

“I ceased watching major leagues when then went on strike.”

Which strike? there have been strikes since 1972. Why are you here commenting? Just like the postrs who get on TV threads and say they don’t have a TV or watch, or posters on rock music threads that don’t like rock music.

Rose betting on his team was just ahead of its time. Like now.

Trump should point that out.

Members of “The Baseball Hall of Fame” are voted on
by the “Baseball Writers’ Association of America” (BBWAA).
They are not selected by Major League Baseball.

I ceased watching major leagues when then went on strike.

I went through a few years when I was a complete a--hole about it: turning off TVs with baseball on it, publicly criticizing the battle of the billionaires vs. millionaires, etc. Now, I just largely ignore it.

It was funny when I was watching Ken Burns' series on baseball. I went from players I had heard from history to players my dad talked about to players in my childhood and young adulthood until the strike season. Then it was like a foreign country other than things which hit the news headlines like Sosa vs. Mcguire.

As for getting me back in the stadium, they could update the famous White Sox event and have Taylor Swift Demolition Night.

His achievements were as a player. The other was while managing. Should be inducted as a player.
