The arrest took place on February 27, 2025 in the village of Río Frío, municipality of San Nicolás, department of Santa Bárbara. The operation was carried out by various special search and capture units of the Honduran National Police, who, after intelligence and monitoring work, managed to locate and apprehend the suspect.

Charges against him Eswin Mejia is wanted by the United States justice system for the following crimes: Motor Vehicle Homicide: Class II A Felony, in violation of Sections 28-306(1) and 28-306(3)(b) of the Nebraska Revised Statutes.

Following his arrest, Mejía will be transferred under strict security measures to the National Directorate of Special Forces in Tegucigalpa. He is expected to be presented before the Supreme Court of Justice tomorrow for the corresponding hearing, in accordance with the extradition process.

International cooperation in security Mejía's capture was made possible by close cooperation between the government and U.S. authorities, strengthening bilateral ties in security and justice. This arrest reaffirms Honduras' commitment to the fight against impunity and transnational crime. LB

I think the country has known that he came back and is currying favor with the administration by returning him to the US for trial.
