President Trump is planning to sign an executive order that would for the first time make English the official language of the U.S., according to White House officials.

Good, and congress needs to follow up with a law.
I’ve been waiting for something this simple for a few decades. Common sense.
I think this is really aimed at keeping the left and media busy while he does other things.
The media isn’t very good a multi-tasking. They focus on one story for a few days and try to hammer it home.
The last month they seem to be chasing their tails. LOL
That’s good because I don’t speak or understand Zeeper.
Agreed, Congress needs to pass this, should have done this a long long long time ago.
Yes, this needs to be a law. No government docs in other languages anymore.
What language is the US Constitution written, of course english.
Does this mean all government docs will be in English only ???
Including voting ballots ???
okay that’s funny 😁
Wonderful! This is an unexpected piece of good news.
👍🏻
In the old days, immigrants had no choice. To get by their new country, they had to learn English. That lead to a Melting Pot, a very good thing.
Now if you can’t speak English, no problem. Just request documents in your native language. That leads to Balkanization, a very bad thing.
The article is behind a paywall for me. Does Trump’s order mean that federal documents will be in English only? I would hope so, maybe after a grace period of six months.
Excellent!
Then cut out the multiple languages printed on ballots, etc.
That will be a problem in Puerto Rico.
School children should have a basic proficiency in speaking English before starting school.
Researching on the web, we never had an official language. This is the first time.
BTW. Do you know how much our government spends on interpreters? On multilingual documents and signage? How many proceedings such as court case are jammed up with delays to get an interpreter? How much is spent on alternative language classes and instruction throughout the public education system?
Here comes another PopUp Judge to quash this order.
We have relatives on my wife’s side whose kids came here not knowing a word of English.
Today, they speak English perfectly with no trace of an accent.
Will be interesting to see the details of this.
The reality, is interpretation can be provide through technology. Lot of govt interpreters and contractors losing jobs?
