Trump Order Adds Bite to DOGE's Cost-Cutting Efforts

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday outlining a "cost efficiency initiative" for federal agencies working with the Department of Government Efficiency.

The order asks agencies to coordinate with the chief of their DOGE team to review contracts and grants and to terminate or modify them "where appropriate."

The order also directs the General Services Administration to submit a plan within 60 days to Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought regarding any government-owned real estate that is "no longer needed." Since beginning his second term last month, Trump reportedly has been weighing the sale of two-thirds of the federal government's office supply to the private sector.

The GSA owns, manages, and leases much of the government's real estate and controls and takes care of a large number of federal buildings. But a lack of funding has led to many of those buildings being poorly maintained, and they are sitting empty or underused, the GSA testified before Congress in 2023.

The executive order also asks agencies to build a system to "record every payment" spent on the agency's contracts and grants and provide a "brief, written justification for each payment." Further, it asks agency heads to work with their DOGE team chief to build a system to record approval for federally funded travel or conferences and provide written justification for conferences or nonessential travel.

Trump's action builds upon another DOGE-related executive order he signed Feb. 11 that directed agencies to work with DOGE to cut staff and limit hiring.

DOGE, led by Tesla and SpaceX owner Elon Musk, was tasked by Trump to streamline the federal government by eliminating waste and fraud. Its efforts to reduce the federal workforce took another step forward Wednesday when OMB and the Office of Personnel Management sent a seven-page

Does anyone know who holds the loans for VA loans? There is a property near me that’s been vacant/abandoned since the housing/banking bubble. Rumors say last buyer had a VA loan and let it go. Strange thing is there is still a lawn maintenance contract even though the house is starting to collapse. I wonder if it’s government waste/stupidity.

VA loans are similar to standard private mortgages in that they are serviced by mortgage servicing companies and the mortgage is actually held by investors of some kind.

The town or city records should show the name of the servicing lender for that address (including history).

There was a very large warehouse near us that sat inactive for years. Locals said it was CIA. Finally a businessman started asking.

Turns out it was empty, but was indeed US property. With the help of a US Senator and multiple agencies signing off, the building was finally sold.

When people cry about federal workers losing their jobs, take a look at this:

2019: 1,898,440 federal employees
2020: 1,936,454 federal employees
2021: 1,956,539 federal employees
2022: 1,960,181 federal employees
2023: 2.87 million federal employees
2024: 3 million federal employees

I suspect a lot of the more recent federal hires (under Biden administration) were DEI connected hires or favors for the politically connected. Or, these could be jobs for which people do not actually exist, but funds are directed to someone’s banking account for that job position.

These positions need to be tracked down to see if they are necessary or if they even exist. I suspect that is what DOGE is doing.

Good post.

That shows that cutting one million federal employees is totally doable.

The 1,000,000 DEI employees hired within the last 2 years are probationary, and easily fired.

In my unit, we haven't hired a white male in 7 years (total manpower 37) and the only new white additions have been 2 women transfers.

Meanwhile, we're up to 8 Bangladeshis, and the rest look like a U.N. subcommittee.

Probably all just a coincidence tho...

It’s probably just a coincidence that your experience matches that of just about everyone across the nation.

I’m not sure if it’s still true, but a few years ago every job announcement had the phrase “priority given to minorities or ‘marginalized’ individuals” or something similar.

Thankfully, I’m now retired and no longer have to participate in those dreaded hiring committees.

Meet Nigerian Prince Ifeanyi Ossai Nwabuonwu Idriss. His "company," located in his Texas home,
received $1.4M tax dollars from FEMA for bottled water for illegals in NYC.
