A consumer-activist group founded by John Schwarz has launched a grassroots campaign to halt spending online or instore and not use credit or debit cards for 24 hours on Friday, Feb. 28, in an attempt to disrupt the economic order and “take back control of our economy, government and future of our country,” reports CBSNews.
KEY FACTS
* The People’s Union boycott calls for no spending on fast food, gas or at major retailers – “No Amazon, No Walmart, No Best Buy” – starting at midnight on Feb. 28.
* Purchases deemed essential, i.e. food, medicine, emergency supplies, are permitted but only in cash and with small, local businesses.
* After the single-day spending pause, People’s Union plans week-long protests against specific retailers, including Amazon Mar. 7-14, Nestlé Mar. 21-28 and Walmart Apr. 7-13.
* In an unaffiliated protest, Black faith leaders are calling for a 40-day “fast” or boycott of Target to protest its dialing back DEI initiatives to run during Lent starting on Ash Wednesday, Mar. 5.
BACKGROUND
The People’s Union claims not to be a protest or political party, but a “movement of people unionizing” to expose corruption in the economic system and resist efforts by businesses, government and the “wealthy elite” to exploit workers, suppress wages and “keep the majority of us in a constant state of struggle.” The Feb. 28 Economic Blackout is the group’s opening salvo to disrupt and reform the American economic system from the ground up.
WHAT WE DON’T KNOW
In general, corporations consider boycotts a mere nuisance and not of much consequence with some exceptions, e.g. Bud Light and Target boycotts in 2023. However, the People’s Union economic blackout and the 40-day Target fast are tapping into a groundswell of dissatisfaction in the direction of the country after the last election.

these fools want to be the PETA of consumerism: make ridiculous outrageous claims to get free publicity about nothing and then move along ...
I’ll be sure to do my household shopping tomorrow.
Oh look another astroturfed movement using lies in an attempt to create dissension.
The left would rather see America destroyed than be successful.
The People’s Union
I have withheld going to shop tomorrow pointedly. I hope the stores are a bit less crowded.
If you are a normal person get out there and spend like you mean it !!!

No one outside Alt Left’s the screaming clown club pays any attention to this bombastic proapganda
I’ll be sure to do a little extra shopping tomorrow then.
Saw a PETA protest once
They line up 2 deep and about 200 people wide to make it look like their was a big crowd. The TV “News “showed up, shot about 5 minute of film and left. Once the cameras left, the crowd was gone in under 5 minutes
That how this grifters operate. Their only real goal is to separate the gullible Alt Left trust fund babies from their money. Other then that they are useless AstroTurf noise
How this will work as they don’t buy anything tomorrow and then on the 29th they buy everything. Useless and stupid virtue signalling.
Now I wish I had held my FReepathon donation until tomorrow. I don’t mind spending on Conservative causes.
Going to go to Joann Fabrics funeral tomorrow. RIP (Kidding.) Plan on stocking up on more sewing things. Also going to Hobby Lobby. I would go to Chick til A, but the city does not have one.
Will be buying gasoline and anything else I can think of...
Do they not know that Trump won the POPULAR vote? These idiots are the minority, useless.
You seem to like this action, which is rather disappointing.
My wife and I have been saving a number of purchases till Friday just because.
It's a meaningless exercise.
Don't spend money tomorrow then the next day they will go out and buy all the stuff they didn't buy the day of the protest.
People still shop Best Buy?
I like this idea. A whole 24 of no Amazon trucks blocking my parking spot.
