Everyone is lying.

On Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona leaned into Stephen Feinberg, President Trump’s pick to be deputy secretary of Defense, and challenged him to defend Donald Trump’s lie.

Feinberg could not answer the question with a yes.

That was a lie.

Probably the most accurate assessment of the current situation I've seen.

Don't be mislead by the excerpt: he goes on to excoriate Kelly as well.

The fact is that Putin has stated war aims he cannot achieve and needs a face saving way to back out. Trump's prevarications about Ukraine provide that and give Putin a way to start negotiations. So far Trump has been harder on Ukraine than Russia, but at the press conference a couple of days ago he pointed out that military assistance is still flowing and more will flow following the approval of the metals deal until there is a ceasefire, which was an implicit warning to Putin as well.

Haven’t read the article yet, but agree with your assessment that Trump is trying to give Putin a graceful way out.

Do NOT box in your opponent during negotiations. I cannot write “The Art Of The Deal,” but I know at least this much!

The correct answer is the US, the EU and the global corporatists started this war by attempting regime changes in Russia and Ukraine.

With reference to 2014, note also the Obama-backed USAID coup that preceded Russia’s takeover of Crimea.

“Trump is the master of the Art of the Deal.”

1. Ask for 90%
2. Complain loudly and a lot, but back off to 51%
3. Seal the deal.
4. Tell your competitor how tough he is, what a masterful negotiator he is, how brilliant he is. Make him your friend.
5. They all lived happily ever after.

The article is an excellent explanation of what’s going on, of course they have to include Trump as a “liar” but they recognize his approach may bring the peace that’s needed.

But somehow when Putin funded Yanukovych and the Donbass oligarchs, he was not?

If you want to argue that Yanukovych was democratically elected, I would point out he arrested his predecessor and when he tried to accept Putin's deal after Parliament approved an EU deal, everyone in Ukraine knew exactly what he was doing. He also severely weakened Ukraine's army on purpose. Yanukovych was no different than Chavez' elected dictatorship in Venezuela.

Having lost at the game of subversion, Putin resorted to invasion, twice.

And what incitement occurred that triggered that? In 2014 specifically? The western backed coup that removed the President of Ukraine and threw political power to the Russophobic Bandera worshipping nationalists? To open up a civil war to cleanse Ukraine of its Russian-ness?

The “West” has been salivating for war with Russia since at least 1945, as part of a global geopolitical strategy, the end game using Ukraine as its frontman, because of flawed calculations of the effect that would be inflicted on Russia.

Loss of face, loss of political support for Putin, loss of reputation of the Russian military, loss of Russian economic power, breakup of the Russian Federation into Western controllable smaller nations with probable chaos and civil war weakening Russia as a world power.

Hence the “ promises” to Ukraine starting in about 2008, that they would become part of NATO. With western troops and weapons based. Western politicians knew for a decade or more that this was a redline for Russia. Building up the Ukraine military under the guise of the Minsk agreements was to accelerate the timing for the war. It was supposed to be Hillary Clinton’s war.

Thank God for Trump and Gabbard to see through this and have the courage to stop it.

Exactly. During Trump’s first term, he thought he could negotiate with Dems where both sides would be satisfied with the deal. He had no idea that unlimited money-backed Politicians had no plans to get anything done except to line their own pockets. He is much wiser now.

Also note Putin's funding of Yanukovych and the Donbass oligarchs to turn Ukraine into a puppet state.

He tried the game of subversion and lost.

When dealing with this issue, pay particular attention to the choice of words being used. Putin invaded, but who provoked the war. Those who want to confuse the issue want everyone to just focus on the invasion. Trump is smart enough to know the situation is much more complicated.

Very simplistic and shortsighted view. Did Russia invade? Absolutely. Did they do so with zero provocation? Nope. We ( under Obama ) absolutely set multiple events in motion to deliberately get things to where they are. Biden also threw gas on that fire. Doesn’t make Russia right or blameless but to say all of this is Russias fault is ignorant.

Some would argue we started this mess by helping overthrow an elected govt through a color revolution, offering nato membership to ukraine when that was explicitly not allowed in prior agreements, and having biolabs in ukraine.

Its doubtful that “ everyone in Ukraine” really knew the differences, pros and coms, between the deals offered to bail out Ukraine, by Russia and the bankers of the EU. “Color revolutions” depend on popular emotion much more than fact.

Georgia just managed to escape one.
Romania is facing one now,

Two take-aways from the article:

I’d be willing to bet Mark Kelly supports USAID to the max, and also, Mark Kelly is trying to sabotage the US-Russia peace negotiations; like any good Democrat.
