The Trump administration said Tuesday that it would be revamping the U.S. investor visa, increasing the funds required to secure the status while dubbing the new option a “gold card.”
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told reporters in the Oval Office that the Trump administration would be ending the existing EB5 visa program, while President Trump boasted the new visa would bolster the economy.
“We’re going to be selling a gold card. You have a green card. This is a gold card. We’re going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million and that’s going to give you green card privileges, plus it’s going to be a route to citizenship. And wealthy people will be coming into our country by buying this card. They’ll be wealthy, and they’ll be successful, and they’ll be spending a lot of money and paying a lot of taxes and employing a lot of people, and we think it’s going to be extremely successful,” Trump said.
Lutnick said the new card would raise funds to pay down U.S. debts.
“They’ll have to go through vetting, of course, to make sure they’re wonderful world class global citizens, they can come to America. President can give them a green card, and they can invest in America, and we can use that money to reduce our deficit.” (Excerpt)

Huh.. An immigration program focused on bringing in productive people instead of third world sewage... That’s new. I don’t think we’ve seen such a thing since the 1950s at least.
“They’ll have to go through vetting”
Are you now or have you ever been a member of the deomocrat party?
I’m for this, but it’s fun to point out it would just be another parallel with ancient Rome:
Then the commander said, “I had to pay a lot of money for my citizenship.” “But I was born a citizen,” Paul replied.
-—Acts 22:28
Excellent!
Who loves you, baby?
Wow. Interesting. Why not? We will have a bunch of ME princes and Chinese entrepreneurs buying the Gold Card but they’ll be investing in America and Americans. I like Trump’s plans. Economic union should lead to greater peace.
Trumps, always raising the stakes
The vetting part is important. A lot of money has been made by criminals.
Having $5M doesn't mean someone is a productive or intelligent, or more importantly a moral and ethical person. It just means they have $5M. Additionally, the program would rely heavily on a vetting process. Do you really trust the government, or more properly the people who may be running the government in the future, to do that right over the long run when there are literally 100s on millions of dollars on the line?
There needs to be another criteria also, not just money. Lots of criminals can afford to buy their way in. We need people of good character, that have skills we want in this country, not just a bunch of wealthy drug dealers.
Trust but verify
the $5M should come from their very own pocket, no government funds put forth here.
They should have some skin in the game.

Absolutely.
The vetting should be well-developed.

I believe the intention is for individual will build companies, as well as employing U.S workers, within our country.
Good idea. Trump should also offer citizenship with benefits for ‘conservative journalists’. Let’s give the MSM a lesson in empathy. (willing to write the stories American journalists won’t write)
If it’s set up as investment in a financial institution or business, it would not have a direct effect on the national debt.
If it’s paid directly to the US government, it would be spent.
