REALLY GLAD MASSIE IS NOT AN ACCOUNTANT
You are correct that there is no solution other than default and revaluation of the dollar.
But, although no sane person would want a bone marrow transplant under any circumstances, if you are diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia, what seemed ridiculous starts to look pretty good.
That having been said - since Congress has not passed a budget since 1998, and since it’s something they are required to do every year, getting the Legislative Branch back to legislating would be progress of a sort.
“2) Grow the economy faster than the debt.”
That is the win win solution—and we can do it.
So every Democrat voted against cutting taxes on Social Security, tips and overtime. So much for being for the poor and middle class. They are strictly for government and power.
If you cut hourly pay to nothing and they rely on tips they are subcontracted IMO. Ergo the 1099
Massie, as usual, being an Assie. Even that kook Burchett (fake Rebub-east TN liberal) voted Aye.
They are not Tax Cuts. They are rate changes. That creates growth.
Look to the 80s.
ANY idiot in office that can’t see that should resign. Massie!
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. On these complex issues it is not surprising that opinions vary.
That’s not legal.
likely not, but some of the conditions could be met. 1) generally work without direct supervision on defined job, 2) shows up and completes job/task at own time scale.... if the employer drops the wages down to zero and there’s only tips then it’s not a W-2 situation, either, IMO.
You’ve gone way off from what I was addressing, which is that if tips aren’t taxed employers can pay less for the same competitive job-market impact.
It looks like the employees gain, which initially they probably do, but for many situations most of the gain ultimately goes to the employer.
It’s just funny that when a ‘competitive job market impact’ comes down salary/wage dole outs you go to ‘reducing the pay’ to stay competitive, and it doesn’t matter about the employee.
It would seem to me a worker with untaxed tips would work harder and more quickly if they got to keep all the tips and now worry about the taxes. It would also be increasing employer sales, in fact.
If you want to boost employer revenue, then go for a business tax reduction on profits.
Giving workers the tax break on tips was campaign promise - not a reduction of payouts by an employer simply because the withholding and taxes are impacted (possibly beneficially or not)
>> You cannot boil the ocean
that’s such a great line
yesterday, Massie made the legitimate point about the likelihood of the continuous, long-term spending reductions being next to none given his experience over that last dozen years
I don’t mind Massie’s symbolic opposition providing it doesn’t materially interfere with Trump’s agenda. We also know that Mike Johnson is playing the MAGA role instead of truly believing it — at least that’s what I believe.
Wow! The winning! Senate, your turn to do the same!
Does it cut taxes to the top 1%?
Tax cuts to give us more buying power are a good thing, but Trump's tax cuts also came with a push to bring the tax paying jobs back. That has to happen again, which he's working on. Combining that with eliminating government fraud and waste are all needed.
Just one more point on all of this. Who were the brilliant minds who thought that offshoring our tax paying workforce and manufacturing while ramping up for the WOT were a good idea?
