State officials preparing to assist Tinker Air Force Base employees caught in potential layoffs

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — Oklahoma leaders are preparing to help hundreds of people who could lose their jobs at Tinker Air Force Base.

Words of major cuts spread last week, and while nobody has been fired as of Tuesday, there are efforts being made in case those layoffs do happen.

Tinker Air Force Base employs federal workers, but those at the state level are now chiming into play their part on how to help those who could be impacted. That includes brainstorming ways to help potentially hundreds of employees who could be without a job.

"It's really kind of in a holding pattern. People are worried," state Sen. Mark Mann said.

KOCO 5 confirmed that Tinker provided the Pentagon with a list of the probationary workforce as the White House looks to reduce the number of civilians at the federal level.

"My district literally butts up to a big portion of the west side of Tinker. I mean, literally right across the street," Mann said. "Tinker is one of the most important air bases in the entire U.S. military, and I think to cut anybody at Tinker without any forethought is a little concerning."

The journalist apparently didn't think party affiliation was worth mentioning. For those might wonder ... he's a Democrat.

Meghan Mosley is a terrible writer. Chiming in to not chiming into. Chiming in to do something not chiming into the inside of something. God! And hundreds of people without jobs! Not hundreds of people who are without one job. And that’s only from the first few paragraphs. It’s all I can tolerate.

This could be bad news for Tink.

I know most here will roast me for saying this, but this scares me. Operational readiness will likely be severely impacted at Tinker AFB. The civilian workforce at a military base should not be subject to the cutbacks that Musk and Trump are pushing for.

Meghan Mosley is a terrible writer.

Here's a hint why she's writing this:

What she isn't saying: Tinker AFB hired a bunch of Black "workers" in 2021 as a present to the St. George Floyd worshippers, and they could and should be canned now.

There’s a small group of planes outside Tinker on static display - at least there were a few years ago when I visited

In the 1970’s my parent’s house was right under an approach - I’d often by in the backyard and look up to see the belly of an a/c with the gear down

Many, many times a fighter jet would be zipping around

I was riding my mini-bike at Little Sahara I think it was called - A blue-and-yellow F-4 Phantom II of the Blue Angels flew over at about 50 feet - it was pretty wild to see, especially as a kid

“... didn’t think party affiliation was worth mentioning ...”

If party is not mentioned the politician involved in the story is a democRAT. It has been that way my whole life. It seems to be a small way for the media to endorse the D.

Of course their argument is “If you like the message, vote for that. Party does not matter.” This of course ignores the real world fact that the number of elected politicians from a particular party has more impact, sometimes negative, on one’s personal life than the ‘message’ from a single tooth on the political cog.

I would not assume that these probationary employees were all top notch fighter pilots or essential employees. They were all hired in the past year under very questionable hiring practices into questionable positions.

If their job aided in combat readiness and they got the job on merit, they will probably be asked back.

Depends - I was in uniform for 24 years and a DOD civilian for 15 - while some good folks will get caught up in the purges, a lot of dead weight will be eliminated - and they might have the option of culling out the good ones for retention...

No, it’s not BS. Operational Readiness will be affected if they make unwise cuts.

You want to talk about waste? I’m not a sports fan, but I read that there are 53 players on a football roster and 11 players on the field and that there are 26 players on a baseball roster with 9 on the field. Talk about waste. Get rid of the extra players and their salaries and maybe regular people could afford tickets to the game. Or maybe I don’t understand the requirements of the game, like those who may not understand the requirements of Operational Readiness.

By the by, I have no problem with the DOGE effort to find waste. I am concerned about cuts made by people who don’t know what they are doing.
