Institutional Resistance To Trump Proves The Left’s Disdain For Democracy
The Federalist ^ | February 24, 2025 | Margot Cleveland

Those condemning President Trump’s firings of resistance officials are not attacking the executive — they are attacking our democracy.

Donald Trump is not acting like a dictator. And he’s not acting like a king. He’s governing as the executive — the position to which he was elected by a majority of voters.

Yet with every decision President Trump makes, the left responds with claims that our very democracy is at risk. But, as is often the case, if you allow the ignorant to talk long enough, they shine a light on their stupidity — and their true motives. And with just a month into Trump’s second term, the left has fully revealed that their attacks are not aimed solely at the President, but also target the voters who elected him, proving President Trump is not the threat to democracy. They are.

Friday’s news that President Trump had fired the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Charles Q. Brown, and other senior military officials, crystalized this reality. Soon after the announcement, politicians and pundits began pontificating on the supposed horror of the move.

“Dictators or wannabe kings fire general who don’t agree with their politics. This isn’t a banana republic,” Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., declared on X. “What Trump and Hegseth are doing is un-American, unpatriotic. It’s definition of politicizing our military, and we should expect to see loyalty oaths (not to the Constitution) and worse coming soon.”

Bill Kristol expanded on the theme in a Bulwark podcast with his fellow autocrat Sam Stein. “We try to explain the broader significance of replacing these senior military officers,” Kristol posted on X, saying, “Trump wants to break all institutional constraints at the power agencies, and secure personal fealty to him.”

We do not have a "democracy."

We have a constitutional representative republic with representatives chosen through democratic elections.

And those elections for reps, instead of a ‘democratic’ election, ought to be in the form of a state, district or county level electoral college so the hives infested with commies, fascists, socialists, marxists and other brainwashable drones wouldn’t be able to control the results in some states the way they do now.

The president is using the dept of education as the lever to force the state of Maine to stop allowing boys to play in girls sports.

imho before the dept of education is torn up — it should be used to force all the blue states to abandon their woke policies.

the dept of education has all kinds of levers to force schools to comply.

Let's hope the SCOTUS holds to the Constitution, though that would require a bit of course correction on their part. The role of the judiciary should simply be to judge people according to the law; it is the role of the legislature to judge the law, with judges only making necessary interpretations of what the legislature has written, not casting judgment over whether it is constitutional or not. (The power of declaring law unconstitutional properly rests with the people at large, not with one or a tiny number of unelected and fairly unaccountable judges, and they can act accordingly in each election.)

As to the powers of the Executive branch, any attempts by the judiciary to usurp those powers should simply be ignored and treated with proper contempt. Again, the role of judges is to judge whether a law has been violated, not to make executive policy decisions or tell the executive branch how to do its job or what it "should" be doing.

Our flag upside down is a distress signal. They are distressed that they got their collective asses fired.

A democracy is a political system in which the people periodically, by majority vote at the polls, select their rulers. The rulers then have absolute power to make whatever laws they please, by majority vote among themselves.

In a constitutional Republic, the people also, by majority vote at the polls, select rulers, who make laws by majority vote among themselves; but the rulers cannot make any laws they please because the Constitution severely restricts their lawmaking power.

The ideal of a democracy is universal equality. The ideal of a constitutional Republic is individual liberty.

In this century, great strides have been made toward the goal of subverting our Republic and transforming it into a democracy. One tactic of the subverters is subversion of language. By calling the United States a democracy until people thoughtlessly accept and use the term, totalitarians have obscured the real meaning of our principles of government.

Dan Smoot Report, 1966
The left actually has an outsized and perhaps unnatural love for democracy. It’s the constitutional Republic they hate.
