Zelensky says he hopes to end Ukraine war 'this year'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said "we hope that we can finish this war this year" on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion.

But he warned that Ukraine needs security guarantees to prevent Moscow returning, suggesting EU and Nato membership will help. Russia has consistently opposed the idea of Ukraine joining Nato.

Earlier, Zelensky said a peace deal with Russia could start with a "full" exchange of prisoners of war.

Zelensky was speaking at a summit of European leaders, plus Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, who were in Kyiv to show their support.

A variation of that is that, Trump doesn't seem to be on the same page as Zelensky. So, both are going to have to abide by what Russia wants. ;)

He can just off himself for glory or something. It would likely become a national holiday!

Are you of the opinion that President Trump is subservient to Putin?

Up to lately, Trump has seemed to be more on Putin's side than Zelensky's. It may be a negotiating tactic, but the way is appears lately, Russia may end up the 'winner', in a way in this Ukraine disaster.

I am sure he would love to end the war, since he has exactly what he invaded to get currently.

Too much hand waving.

Ukraine is getting nothing unless it’s in the budget package and Trump is going to veto anything other than something trivial like food aid.

Are there 2/3 votes available in both Houses to override a veto? Especially with an emphasis on cutting spending and minimizing the Debt Ceiling increase? 2/3 of the Senate would be 67 votes and 48 of them Dems. So 19 GOP types would have to betray Trump.

Such overrides of same party presidents do happen, but they are nearly always something trivial like Highway funding.

I would like to read Tulsi Gabbard's intel report. Did Ukraine (with Biden's help) provoke Putin into invading Ukraine?

Seems like this war should have been avoided according to President Trump.

You can almost hear him rattling his tin cup for 183rd time.
No NATO for him, unless we withdraw first. And out of the UN.

Then they can put his statues next to all the Nazi Bandera statues that are across Ukraine….and even rename all the roads named after Bandera.

Vlad has accomplished his stated goals except banishing all the Neo Nazis, that is going to be a tough one.

The fool can’t seem to understand that his dreams of NATO is what started the war. It is not an option. He will be happy to rule the ashes of Ukraine as long as he can keep the money flowing.
