Hamas released six Israeli hostages on Saturday, but Israel suspended the handover of more than 600 Palestinians it was due to free from its prisons in exchange, putting the five-week-old ceasefire agreement once more in jeopardy.
In a statement on Sunday, the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said: “In light of Hamas’ repeated violations – including the disgraceful ceremonies that dishonour our hostages and the cynical use of hostages for propaganda – it has been decided to delay the release of terrorists that was planned for yesterday [Saturday] until the release of the next hostages is ensured, without the humiliating ceremonies.”
Israeli authorities had earlier said the release would be delayed “until the release of the next hostages is guaranteed, and without the degrading ceremonies” at handovers of Israeli captives in Gaza.
The release of 620 Palestinian prisoners had already been delayed for several hours and was meant to occur just after six Israeli hostages were released on Saturday. Vehicles apparently carrying Palestinian prisoners eventually left the open gates of Ofer prison, only to turn around and go back in.
The delay imposes further strain on the precarious truce, which is at a particularly vulnerable moment, between first and second phases. The first phase is due to end next Saturday, but negotiations on the second phase have yet to begin.
Hamas spokesperson Abdel Latif al-Qanou issued a statement accusing Israel’s prime minister of “procrastination and stalling tactics”.
“The [Israeli] occupation’s failure to comply with the release of the seventh batch of prisoners in the exchange deal at the agreed-upon time constitutes a blatant violation of the agreement,” al-Qanou said.

I take it that Israel does not believe in Capitol Punishment.
600 Palestinians makes an expense group of people to continue keeping alive. The expense will only increase as such groups get older.
If it was up to me Hamas would get 620 full body bags.
Netanyahu is in anguish dealing with these murderers. If a vestige of Hamas continues to exist after there is “peace”, it would be akin to remnant NAZIs playing a role in post war Germany.Netanyahu undoubtly will resume definitive hostilities once he is assured that all live hostages have been released. He also knows that the security and intelligence failures that resulted in October 6, though not really his fault, will be borne by him. His political career will be over. If there is a way to not release these 600 convicted criminals, he will take it. It will gnaw at him forever that they for whatever reason were released on his watch.

Hamas knows that their days are numbered and so they are playing games and hoping to delay and frustrated israel as long as possible. Hamas are animals! Tney are not human, and have ,let any sense of morality and decency that their kind “might have” ever possessed. Thay are so bad infact that nobody in the middle east wi,l take them in. Perhaps releasing the terrorists by the hu dreds every time isnt too bad a deal as Releasing thousands of terrorists overall will result in them being eliminatedd when Israel resumes the war agaisnt hamas as bibi has vowed to do. There may be a method to the madness after all.

Since when does Hamas worry about keeping agreements with Israel? Return 600 bodies to them, same as they did those babies and others.

People had the right to protest. But not at the risk of destabilization. FWIW, I haven't heard of too many protests in Tel Aviv recently. But it was a big thing before the war.
People were protesting against Netanyahu's government due to purely political reasons. Similar to President Trump's impeachments during his first administration.
They really cannot do it, but!
The PROPER response should be that unless ALL hostages are released by tomorrow the Pali’s in prison will get shot at the rate of one every five minutes starting at midnight until they are.
Instead they are negotiating with terrorist.
Even if the hostages are released the terrorist won, they will just do it all again.

Israel will, at some point, need to start legating the death penalty.
Until now, the liberal, Jewish, Left elite in Israel have proudly stood by their banner of only executing one man Adolf Eichmann in the early 1960’s.
If the Israeli leadership wants to continue this charade of PALEOstinians taking hostages and mostly getting body bags back then they will have to break this insane cycle that has been going on for 40 years, since the 1982 war in Lebanon.
Isn’t enough enough?
Why repeat this insane cycle again and again? MAYBE if Israel gave up murderers at a ratio of 1:1, MAYBE that might work but this lopsided agreement, which is repeated all the time will stop. Why give the scum hundreds for the return of a live hostage or a dead one?
Where is the logic and which fools conduct Israel’s negotiating policy?
