Illinois secession bill passes first hurdle
Indiana Capital Chronicle ^ | FEB 18, 2025 | Casey Smith

Republican House Speaker Todd Huston’s proposal would create an Indiana-Illinois Boundary Adjustment Commission tasked with exploring the secession and transfer of counties that have already voted to leave the state of Illinois.

A push for Illinois counties to separate has been ongoing for at least a decade but is gaining traction. Since 2020, 33 Illinois counties have passed “advisory referenda” to secede from the Prairie State — with seven of those votes occurring in the November general election.

PLEASE tell me this has a chance of happening!!!! It could change everything!!!

And the Democrat response... "Is this a two-way street?" Can Gary join Chicago? ROFLMBO

I am beyond positive that 90% of Hoosiers would LEAP at the chance to trade Gary for 33 highly productive farming counties. PLEASE let Gary go to Chicago!!! They already share the same time zone and crime rates and local tax rates.

And just look at that map... clear SUPERmajorities in most of those counties already exist!!!!

So there’d be the State of Chicago...and the rest of Illinois goes elsewhere.

I live in one of the 33 and never even heard of this going on. 100% in favor of it though!

Of COURSE you haven’t heard anything about it - the progs in gubmint and media in your state would never do anything to promote this idea.

There would still be a state of Illinois. The counties that secede would become part of Indiana.

It would be cool if the Prickster is one of the Illinois counties that secedes.

The same thing is happening in Eastern Oregon, which wants to become part of Idaho. Problem is, Congress would have to approve in both cases, and that’s highly unlikely.

Problem is, Congress would have to approve in both cases, and that’s highly unlikely.

Because it would be repeated throughout the country.

The Founding Fathers didn't foresee what would happen where citizens in counties would want to have their county join another state, nor did they foresee where a state would be considered insolvent and need to be reduced to a territory.

When will Southern states’ people be allowed to invade, kill, loot and pillage the citizens of Illinois?

Stupid analogy. They aren’t talking about leaving the union and forming their own country. They are talkin about leaving Illinois and joining Indiana or forming their own state like West Virginia did.

“The Founding Fathers didn’t foresee...”

They had some idea which is one of the Electoral College. What they did not foresee was the massive rat controlled cites holding the rural counties at their mercy

>The Founding Fathers didn’t foresee …<

Actually they did. Then came along the 17th amendment.

The direct election of senators doesn’t help when counties want to join other states, or when a state is so far gone it should no longer be a state.

A “Commission tasked with exploring”. Sooo, a group of people are going to get together and talk about maybe thinking about considering it?
