The Trump administration is preparing to fire hundreds of high-level Department of Homeland Security employees this week as part of a move to rid the country’s third-largest agency of people deemed to be misaligned with the administration’s goals, according to three sources familiar with the matter.
The sources said the Trump administration has a “centralized plan” and a list of people in high-level positions across every component of DHS who are to be targeted this week.
The firings will come on top of hundreds of more general cuts that began across DHS on Friday night, which targeted the Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Those firings were the latest in a governmentwide effort to reduce the federal workforce.
This week, the three sources told NBC News, career employees at high managerial levels, namely Senior Executive Service and General Schedule 15 employees, may be removed from agencies across DHS — not to reduce the size of the workforce but to remove employees whom the administration sees as potentially standing in the way of goals the Trump administration has for the agency.

I think they should get rid of the DHS, it’s just overhead created to bloat government.

Employers looking for cheaper labor costs may find hundreds of thousands laid-off govt. workers lined up at their door.
It will be a somewhat difficult reset for all parties involved, but probably needs to be done.
The world needs ditch diggers too.
Learn to code, baby.
Learn to pick lettuce.
No ditch diggers any more.
Equipment operators yes.
They make very good money.
Each and every one of them failed to protect the country from invasion.
There may be a problem.
Most private employers do not like to hire former gov. employees.
They consider them too lazy and spoiled, not able to perform to the private employee standards.
These people are to be shocked, that there is a performance and real work required to hold a job outside the government.
They are also likely quite top-heavy on mgmt, and the money can be re-directed to folks at the field level.
Just like the Brits discovered recently that they have more admirals than vessels, DHS probably has too many Sr. Managers.
I lived through these sorts of RIFs many times in my career, when my employer worked to flatten mgmt/ expand span of control, all to reduce costs and frankly improve agility. It worked quite well, actually.
“These people are to be shocked, that there is a performance and real work required to hold a job outside the government.”
Not within the Fortune 500. They will be right at home.
Death will be their only comfort.
Actually, The Department of Homeland “Security” should be dissolved. Twenty million foreign invaders illegally entered the United States from all over the world in the past four years and have been raiding our treasury and killing our citizens. What kind of security does it provide?
True...especially with the younger ones....but as I said it’ll be a difficult reset into the real world. No participation trophies.
Not true.
Employers mill take good reliable people any day.
A lot of government employees meet that.
Noting that the headline—and the plan-—is for ‘Senior Leaders’, presumably meaning those older employees who aren’t as spoiled....but more deeply steeped in govt. ethic.
Whatever...interesting times ahead.
Thank you.
