~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Naval Air Warfare Center Orlando, Florida
The Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) is an Echelon IV command of the United States Navy, reporting to the Commander, Naval Air Warfare Center - Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. NAWCTSD is located in Orlando, Florida in the Central Florida Research Park, adjacent to the University of Central Florida (UCF). The facility is a part of a larger military installation within the Central Florida Research Park known as Naval Support Activity Orlando (NSA Orlando).

The roots of NAWCTSD reach back to April 1941 when then-Commander Luis de Florez became head of the new Special Devices Desk in the Engineering Division of the Navy’s Bureau of Aeronautics. De Florez championed the use of “synthetic training devices” and urged the Navy to undertake development of such devices to increase readiness. In June, the office became the Special Devices Section.
Throughout World War II, the Section developed numerous innovative training devices including ones that used motion pictures to train aircraft gunners, a device to train precision bombing, and a terrain modeling kit to facilitate operational planning in the field. The Special Devices Section grew and became the Special Devices Division. In August 1946, the Division, at its newest home at Port Washington, Long Island, New York, was commissioned the Special Devices Center.
The roles of the Department of Defense, the Navy, and the Naval Air Systems Command are changing. Simulation and training are now key to ensuring military preparedness and to adapting to new and changing roles and missions. These changes, coupled with diverse threat potentials, require innovative approaches to how our military trains. NAWCTSD will continue to play a vital role in responding to evolving training and simulation needs. NAWCTSD will also continue to work on transfering its products to non-military applications through cooperative agreements.

I sympathize. I had plenty of trouble with Comcast over the years. I just dumped them and went with my phone company’s service. A couple of friends have used it for a few years now and are very happy with it.
But we’ll see how it likes cold. LOL Getting ready to be frigid here again. :-(

Howdy, luvie.
Did you enjoy your warm day? Bet your kitties did. >^..^<
Not TOO bad here but it was chilly. Sunshine and no wind made it bearable. Tomorrow will be a repeat, temp-wise, then BAM! The frigid air slams in.

Yes, fiber optic.
It started with me calling about a very loud hum on my phone line. They came out and did a little work but the hum was still there, though not as loud. I called again and they brought up the fact they’d put fiber optic all over this area and asked if I’d be interested. I called my friends who use it and they’re happy.
So I called back and made the arrangements. I’m all hooked up now and called Commiecast this afternoon to cancel service. The TV went off around 5:30. I’ll have to shop around for a reasonably-priced TV I can connect a Roku box to. The TVs here only have coaxial connections.
Comcast is pretty fast but this one is noticeably a little faster. But the main thing, for me, is it’s MUCH cheaper.
And there’s no hum on the phone line. :-)
