Russia’s just doing a bit of housecleaning prior to negotiations starting.

“Medvedchuk reiterated the need to address the “root causes” of the war during future peace negotiations and claimed that the way to eliminate the “root causes” is to remove the legitimate government in Ukraine, disarm the Ukrainian military, and remove Western-supplied weapons and equipment from Ukraine. Medvedchuk claimed that the only way to address these issues and guarantee Russia’s security interests is if Russia “controls the territories under [Ukrainian control.]”

That means the Russians are not going to enter negotiations with a reasonable position - an independent Ukraine, defensively armed well, economically connected to both the EU and the Russian Federation, but neutral and without foreign forces or long-range missiles.

“Russia’s just doing a bit of housecleaning prior to negotiations starting.”

The Ukrainians have a substantial Kursk salient that hasn’t been reduced much in the past two months despite obvious Russian desire to do so.

The Russians have gained rural areas in eastern Ukraine that have hostile populations. That’s about as desirable as holding a bunch of thorny rose stems.

A - Armed
F - Forces
U - Ukraine

Unfortunately, Ukraine has lost many good men, sort of as Great Britain did in WWI.

Have you ever negotiated in the real business world?

There are no “unreasonable” positions by any participant.

There are just opening positions.

They should surrender. The two sides need a cease fire. Trade POWs.

That's good.   Intransigence against an existential threat is the best way to negotiate.

One should always ask for more than one will settle for, it gives you bargaining room...

Putin will then get a threat of a quick end to negotiations with Trump and be told to coordinate negotiations on sanctions with Ukraine & same goes for oil/everything with India, Vietnam, and the rest of the world as all countries will be forced to take a side.

Trump is probably intent to tell Putin the same message he did before in person - stop your stupid war - you cannot win war or peace.

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I’ll never look into your eyes again

Obvious to you perhaps, but just last week, part of Kursk made an EXCELLENT killing field for all the hardware that Biden’s people sent to Ukraine since the election...which is also why things are getting so bad now for Ukraine in Donbass.

This is an edited clip from the YouTube channel "Military Summary" with an AI voice over reading the automatically generated transcript.

Looking at the homepages of the channel posting this, goto https://www.youtube.com/@ruslanbelov86/videos, and select oldest videos first. The channel was about various gadgets and gizmos in Russian until nine months ago. There was a six month gap, then three months ago the channel started ripping off Military Summary.

When the original creator carried out his patriotic duty to volunteer to fertilize Ukrainian fields, he sold use of his channel to an elite web Brigade outfit. His former current commander is ensuring his name is still on the active duty roster to maximize his pay to give to his family after the war.

Will we ever know how many have died on both sides?

Generations?

No, Medvedchuk is the Russian “Bad Cop” so Putin can be the Russian “Good Cop.” Its all a tactic of the art of the deal. It will make a great play in the future—or maybe a classic opera? The deal making will be historic. This is going to be the greatest deal of them all for Trump. Expect many twists and turns and a surprise ending like any mystery tale. In the end—only Trump will be smiling—but the killing will stop and the massive rebuilding can start. In a decade it will be a forgotten memory with Russia and Ukraine allies. At that future time, Putin will be dead, Zelensky gone and Trump a historic character. But his statue will stand in Ukraine. We shall see! When Trump visits Moscow he will be greeted as a rock star by the Russian People.
