Hungary’s transformation into an ‘electoral autocracy’ has parallels to Trump’s second term

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Hours before President Donald Trump was sworn in to begin his second term, promising a “golden age” for America, the leader of a Central European country was describing the years ahead in strikingly similar terms.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said Trump’s return would usher in Hungary’s own “golden age” and mark the “collapse” of liberal democracy.

The messaging overlap was no surprise.

Orbán’s strongman style has long served as an inspiration for U.S. conservatives, who have looked at Hungary as a possible model for a right-wing America with less immigration, fewer regulations and the removal of democratic constraints they see as unwieldy or inconvenient.

Orbán has formed a close bond with Trump and has made multiple visits to the president’s Florida resort. This week, the prime minister praised Trump’s unilateral outreach to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the war in Ukraine. During one of last year’s U.S. presidential debates, Trump praised Orbán as “a strong man. He’s a tough person.”

Now, with Trump back in office since Jan. 20, he is testing the limits of presidential power in a way that is drawing comparisons to the anti-democratic methods employed by Orbán and other autocrats.

A "strongman", as if Victor Orban were Idi Amin or something.

He's like Trump in the sense that nobody likes him except the people.

Brought to you by the same people who are happy to see university students wearing t shirts or having posters up in their dorm rooms with Mao’s likeness on them.

GTrump is liberal democracy.

The collapse is that of radical socialist who are in actuality Utopian Fascists, governing according to ideology rater than by Constitutionally required management.

If anything Trump is restoring liberal society in its traditional sense, and casting out the morally skewed, corrupt leftists who cannot now even remotely claim they are “liberals.”They are ideologues committed to the use of force, demographic warfare and economic destruction to make America into their elitist , corrupt Utopia...MASSIVE FAILURE. Alinsky has primed them for destruction.

The next time we come at them, it likely will not be quite so peaceful.

So Orbán is a “strongman”.

Funny how the AP has never used that term to describe Canada’s Trudeau or France’s Macron. Both of them have been in office for quite some time.

It sure looks like the term is only used for conservatives.

The way the Fidesz party wins elections is flooding the field with a slew of candidates; in Hungary the state pays for campaigns so I’m told by Hungarians.

That said at least Orban keeps the place safe. You can’t say that about Western Europe.

Hungary is the best run country in Europe under Orban, so naturally the Ass. Press hates him just like they hate President Trump.

And here come the butt-hurt AP’s hit pieces against Trump. I’d call them children the way they act except that children aren’t corrupt.

Yep. I wish I could find it now, but someone made a side-by-side picture of a German town festival and a Hungarian town festival.

The Hungarians are enjoying the day. The Germans are running from a Muslim knife attack.

In response to the time out from Trump, the AP’s writing increasingly unhinged stories.

“(Orban) has cracked down on LGBTQ+ rights, immigration, the media and civic organizations.”

Let me help clarify this:

“Orban has cracked down on USAID-funded LGBTQ+ rights groups, USAID-funded immigration, the USAID-funded media and the USAID-funded civic organizations.

“The most consequential of Fidesz’s early actions was cracking down on judicial independence.”

Sound very similar to Schumer promising, ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, to ‘pack the courts’, something that I hadn’t heard Trump talk about (although he should do it, or pass a Constitutional Amendment to prohibit doing so). The effect is IDENTICAL.

“While Trump and Republicans cannot unilaterally change the face of the judiciary, the parallels with Orbán are clear. Republicans have long sought a conservative judiciary, and Trump embraced that priority when he first became president in 2017.”

This is the real reason that AP is BANNED in the White House. EVERY PRESIDENT (except GOP idiots) tries to do the same...and the Democrats are NOTORIOUS for doing it, as they’re extreme good at it.

“He has fired prosecutors who investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol and moved to purge the FBI.”

I think most of them were hired on a contract basis.
