Europe quietly works on a plan to send troops to Ukraine for post-war security

BRUSSELS (AP) — Increasingly alarmed that U.S. security priorities lie elsewhere, a group of European countries has been quietly working on a plan to send troops into Ukraine to help enforce any future peace settlement with Russia.

Britain and France are at the forefront of the effort, though details remain scarce. The countries involved in the discussions are reluctant to tip their hand and give Russian President Vladimir Putin an edge should he agree to negotiate an end to the war he launched three years ago.

What is clear is that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy needs a guarantee that his country’s security will be assured until peace takes hold. The best protection would be the NATO membership that Ukraine has long been promised, but the U.S. has taken that option off the table.

If Trump works out a peace and these Euroweenies screw it up by introducing troops, Trump will bring our troops home Europe.

The trained Ukrainian soldier is either the best or second best in the world. It would take one day on the battlefield against the Russians to send the Euroweenie troops running for home.

Putin has stated time and again, NO NATO or foreign troops in Ukraine. If the Euroweenies try to sneak them in under the cover of Trump’s peace, the Russians will kill them all.

I agree with you, if Trump secures a peace deal and the Euros somehow form a military or the other NATO countries decided to intervene the EU will in real trouble, IMO count out the USA, regardless of what happens to our supposed allies.

Just like in DC, Z’s gang members are loading up their Bugatti’s and are skedaddling to the border. How many gold bars can you haul in a Bugatti?

“The @Doge team is causing a very real exodus from Washington DC. Housing listings are surging—over 14,825 in this snapshot alone. It’s less of a market shift and more of a mass evacuation, like rats fleeing a sinking ship.”

Trump said europe has to take care of its own security, not rely on the US.

This plan addresses that. What’s the problem?

Any peace deal would mean Putin admitting to not attck Ukraine any miore.

Are you already predicting Putin will break any peace deal he signs with Pres. Trump? That won’t go down well with Team Trump! lol

Doncha know it is racist to refer to the wisdom accumulated by African slaves. Being none racist means attributing no wisdom to blacks. They have no value and can teach us nothing because we are white racists who cannot be taught and people who are exploited by racists can have nothing useful to say to us racists.

From the article: "Britain and France are at the forefront of the effort, though details remain scarce."

Translation -- There is an effort. There are precious few details. And that effort? Only after "any future peace settlement with Russia."

So this is more "another opening, another show" of posturing by those wacky European elites, who will NOT risk their own national electorates' wrath at sending Brits, or French or Germans to the front.

This is hopium specifically because AP states "Many questions remain unanswered but one stands out: what role, if any, might the United States play?"

See how that works? Europe will take the lead in waiting for the US to "do something!" Again. AP wants the headline noticed, but not the full content of the article, filled with fluff.

So AP asks: "Many questions remain unanswered but one stands out: what role, if any, might the United States play?"

AP didn't listen to or understand Vice-President Vance's talk at the security conference.

..a group of European countries has been quietly working on a plan to send troops into Ukraine to help enforce any
future peace settlement..

If the European countries are brokering 'the settlement,' they will be sending troops into Eastern Germany, since
Putin will only stop fighting when all of Ukraine is absorbed into Russia.

The best protection would be the NATO membership that Ukraine has long been promised, but the U.S. has taken that option off the table.

Well, AP, as usual, you are presenting just a piece of the puzzle. Putin has categorically stated that he will
not negotiate if NATO is a bargaining chip. President Trump has merely reiterated what might bring Putin to the negotiations.

Europe is no longer free and the whole reason for The NATO charter was to protect the free world. Try to Imagine dying on the beaches of Normandy today for the rights of Muslim to rape European girls, or for governments ro arrest and imprison their people for praying and for speaking their minds, or for governments that are actively trying to destroy their own countries and erase their own cultures. Makes no sense.

We will not defend such a place with blood and treasure and I imagine that The Europeans themselves won’t either. You are being asked to defend the indefensible.

European troops are now allowed in neutral Ukraine. No neutral Ukraine, no Ukraine.

“Any peace deal would mean Putin admitting to not attck Ukraine anymore.”

A ‘peace deal’ is different from a cease fire as it means that Russia agrees to the terms.

Europe is talking about cease fire and using it as cover to send their relative handful of soldiers into Ukraine...if so, then the cease fire ends as those soldiers get a taste of Russian hardware, and it’s perfectly clear that Trump will not be sending in our boys to rescue them.

“to help enforce any future peace settlement with Russia”

Only stupid people think that way.

Russia and Ukraine will either keep the deal, or they won’t.

But NOBODY is going to enforce it, and NOBODY is going to have enough troops in Ukraine to enforce it.

The job requires about 5,000 lightly armed observers. About 5 per KM of front.

If “Europe” and Ukraine think they’re going to add 50,000 or 100,000 troops to the mix they’re on dope.

Your page says you signed up in 1998, but I’ve *never* seen your name before on FR ... and I’ve used it for 23 years ... definitely not on any Ukr-Russia threads.

Even stranger, I can go thru MY posting history for years back, but if someone tries to go to page 2 of your posting history, they’re automatically flipped back to the FR News page ...

Weird. Why is that?

“Translation — There is an effort. There are precious few details. And that effort? Only after “any future peace settlement with Russia.”

If that’s the case, then there won’t be European troops going into Ukraine as Russia won’t agree to that.

What Alexander suspects is that all this troop planning is for the case of a cease fire, where Europe inserts the troops over Russian objections and then DEMANDS that Trump send the boys in when the weanies start getting blown to bits by the Russians. That plan may have worked if Harris won, but Trump has already ruled it out, and that’s what counts.

Think about it for a bit: Looking at it from the other direction, Russia has made it perfectly clear that they will never agree to Europeans being stationed in Ukraine, under any condition, so why do the Europeans continue with their plans? Only answer is what Alexander has said, which is essentially for the European armies to use their own troops as cannon fodder to draw-in the US...which would be quite a gamble under Trump.
