When a president builds his cabinet, the public tends to focus on the big names—the high-profile, flashy positions. And sure, those are important. But there are other roles that are just as critical—maybe even more so—but they slip under the radar because they don’t come with headlines or media hype. That’s the problem. The quiet nominations, like Elbridge Colby’s, fly way under the radar, making them easy targets for sabotage by GOP RINOs and the Deep State. And by the time we realize what happened—when Trump’s policies start failing, and when the betrayals start to stack up—it’s too late. And we’re left scratching our heads, wondering why we’re getting stabbed in the back, when the truth is, that groundwork was laid long ago, we just didn’t notice it.
That’s exactly what’s happening right now with Elbridge Colby...
He apparently has different views about Iran. Thinks it’s no big deal if Iran gets nukes and that we shouldn’t intervene unless and until it becomes a threat. And that we shouldn’t be fighting their proxies. Nothing wrong with different opinions and they are worth hearing. Undoubtedly he’d follow policy directives and orders. Not sure if this particular nomination would derail Trump policies. He can still speak his mind and be called upon for input.
He has the pedigree (Harvard and Yale) and experience just the ‘wrong’ opinions on Iran.
I consider this a negative.
But virtually everyone "important" has that same pedigree (which is part of the problem). I can't really say anything against this guy because he's somewhat typical. His Iran position is a little odd though. Not sure he should be in charge of policy.
Yup. Harvard and Yale ain’t what they used to be.
Sounds as if he is abiding by the principles befitting his pedigree. No need for an Iran appeaser to be anywhere near defense decisions. Call them rinos if you want, but it seems the Republicans who opposed this fellow are doing the right thing.
The article seems to suggest it’s the old slow Trump in office. If this nominee is out, the white house will have another one quick as the next round in the chamber.
Can’t get in the way of the warmongers.
Seems like Colby is preparing for the next war (China) and the senators that question him are still fighting the last war. It is a mistake we keep making.
He wrote an nuanced article during the Obama admin questioning whether we should attack Iran. He isn’t a pacifist, just questioning what happens after we start another war, what’s the effect and cost long term.

His position is wholly validated - we did not need to attack Iran in 2012. 13 years have passed and no Iran nuclear threat yet, even with Biden trying to gift it to them. Trump’s max pressure campaign is preferable at the moment.
All that time passed but not uneventfully- because someone did attack Iran and set their program back. If Iran had been left alone, and there hadn’t been any of these actions against it, they would indeed have their nukes.
Top Defense Expert Warns China ‘Likely To Go For An Invasion’ Of Taiwan, Reveals What U.S. Must Do

Elbridge Colby, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Force Development, warned during an interview on Sunday night that China is likely to try to invade Taiwan and that the U.S. must be prepared to use military force to counter an attack.
“I actually think China’s most likely, if it really wants to solve the Taiwan issue, which I do think is really consequential for American’s interests in a concrete way, I think they’re likely to go for an invasion,” Colby told Steve Hilton on Fox News. “I mean, the basic thing is these shows of force that you’re showing, they’re not going to work to subordinate Taiwan. If China’s really serious about it, it’s going to go for a fait accompli, it’s going to move in, take it over, and then present us with just simply too difficult of a reality to reverse.”
Colby warned that China wants to dominate the world and that the key to them doing that is breaking apart nations in the region that would seek to block it from reaching those goals, including Japan, Taiwan, India, Vietnam, Australia and others.
“We should really make sure we have what I call denial defense, and we should basically stop doing almost everything else,” Colby said on what the U.S. should be focused on doing right now. “And that, at the end of the day, is basically about defeating that invasion that I talked about. Sink the fleet, shoot down the air armada, kill, capture, or wound the soldiers that land on Taiwan. If we can do that, it’s actually a pretty low standard, think Britain 1940. If we can do that, we may not win the war in the end, but it’ll be enough.”.. .
That National Socialist is bankrolled by a Pakistani fellow. Follow da money.
Agree - lots of things happened to slow Iran’s nuclear progress, we can’t just ignore it. Colby isn’t saying ignore it. Giving the greenlight to Israel to attack Iran is one way to stay out of it. Selling bombers to Israel should be on the table as well.
I 100% hear and agree with you, but read Colby and you will see he is not a Tucker/Groyper type at all. He is not a Mearsheimer. You might disagree with him, but he is not coming from a fringe isolationist position. His positions are being mischaracterized. To put my own position in context, I do have concerns about other nominations, like Michael DiMino. Colby is totally reasonable.
I’ll try to take a look at him and maybe get back to you at some point....
